Previous issue date: 2016-11-30 / Esta tese trata das mudanças envolvendo o trabalho e os trabalhadores das packing houses de
mangas da região do Vale do São Francisco no Nordeste do Brasil. O estudo, realizado entre
os anos 2013 e 2016, problematiza essas alterações face à inserção deste contexto produtivo
no âmbito dos circuitos e fluxos proporcionados pela globalização dos alimentos. Neste
sentido, a entrada do Vale do São Francisco nos mercados agroalimentares globais é
apreendida como uma dinâmica particular, que coloca atores, empresas e instituições locais
em interação com tendências e padrões difundidos globalmente, emergindo deste contexto
alterações contundentes no mundo do trabalho. Processos produtivos e relações de trabalho
que envolvem os produtos de exportação passam a ser afetados pelas lógicas de controle e
intensificação do trabalho. O estudo tem um recorte metodológico qualitativo, cujo material
de análise é composto por entrevistas semiestruturadas realizadas com trabalhadores, por
observações sistemáticas realizadas nos espaços de produção, assim como por relatos e
depoimentos de outros atores sociais envolvidos na realidade da produção e exportação de
mangas na região. Os dados oriundos das entrevistas são tratados sob a perspectiva da análise
de conteúdo com identificação de padrões compreensivos nas falas dos atores e respectivas
quantificações. A reflexão em torno dos dados é conduzida à luz da Sociologia, perpassando
os estudos rurais, aqueles pertinentes ao mundo do trabalho, assim como a literatura que versa
sobre a globalização e suas características. Na análise dos dados também se incorpora os
debates existentes em áreas afins como a antropologia, a geografia e a economia. Os
resultados obtidos apontam para a configuração de um panorama complexo e marcado por
contradições no que pesa aos reflexos da globalização no trabalho nas packing houses de
manga do Vale do São Francisco. Neste contexto, as ações de resistência cotidiana dos
trabalhadores atingidos por rigoroso controle e elevada intensificação nas rotinas de trabalho,
são entendidas como reflexo da interação entre realidades produtivas locais e mercados
globais. / This thesis deals with the changes involving the work and the workers of the packing houses
of mangoes of São Francisco Valley region in the Northeast of Brazil. The study, conducted
between 2013 and 2016, debates these changes due to the inclusion of this productive context
within the scope of the circuits and flows provided by the globalization of food. In this regard,
the entrance of São Francisco Valley in the global agri-food markets is recognized as a
particular dynamic that inserts actors, local companies and institutions interacting with trends
and globally widespread standards, emerging, from this context, trenchant changes in the
working world. Production processes and working relationships, which involve the export
products, become affected by the control logic and intensification of work. The study has a
qualitative methodological approach, whose material of analysis is composed by semistructured
interviews conducted with workers, through systematic observations made in the
production spaces, as well as through stories and testimonials from other social actors
involved in the reality of production and export of mangoes in the region. The data from the
interviews are treated from the perspective of content analysis with the recognition of
comprehensive patterns in the speech of the actors and their quantifications. The reflection
around the data is conducted in the light of Sociology, running through the rural studies, those
related to the working world, as well as the literature that deals with globalization and its
features. In the data analysis we also incorporate the existing discussions in related fields,
such as anthropology, geography and economy. The results point to the configuration of a
complex landscape and marked by contradictions regarding the consequences of globalization
at work in the mango packing houses of the São Francisco Valley. In this context, the daily
resistance actions of workers affected by strict control and high intensification of work
routines, are understood as a result of interaction between local productive realities and global
markets.
