Previous issue date: 2010-11-09 / This study explores the symbolism of evil way in the novel Grande sert?o: veredas, by
Guimar?es Rosa, regarding faustian pact by Goethe, and so tries to understand how the
rosiana language are present to the strategies which put in suspense the effectiveness of the
demonic agreement and enable, with poetic intensity, different interpretations, especially as
regards the anguish of the human condition. This research thus has drawn upon the Mythical
Symbolism, in Literary Criticism and aspects of Metaphysics, in addition to analyzing classic
literary essays in approaching of Rosa s masterpiece structure. It has also demonstrated that
the incorporation of the Faust legend in Grande sert?o reflects the same desire for happiness
that is not done completely, and in this manner, instigates a discussion about the limits to the
satisfaction of being human. Therefore, it has observed that epic narrative of ex-gangster
Riobaldo to the doctor of city speculates on human man, in the continuous learning of his
passing / sert?o: veredas, de Guimar?es Rosa, em rela??o ao pacto f?ustico, de Goethe, e assim tenta
apreender como na linguagem rosiana est?o dispostas as estrat?gias que p?em em suspense a
efetividade do acordo demon?aco e possibilitam, com intensividade po?tica, diversas
interpreta??es, sobretudo no que diz respeito ?s ang?stias da condi??o humana. Para tanto, a
pesquisa respalda-se na Simbologia M?tica, na Cr?tica Liter?ria e em aspectos da Metaf?sica,
al?m da an?lise de cl?ssicos ensaios liter?rios, na abordagem da estrutura da obra-prima de
Rosa. Busca-se demonstrar que a incorpora??o da lenda de Fausto em Grande sert?o reflete o
mesmo desejo de felicidade que n?o se realiza por completo e, destarte, instiga a discuss?o
sobre os limites ? satisfa??o do ser humano. Desse modo, observa-se que a ?pica narrativa do
ex-jagun?o Riobaldo ao doutor da cidade especula sobre o homem humano, na aprendizagem
cont?nua de sua travessia
