Previous issue date: 2013 / A partir dos estudos dos teóricos Hans Vermeer, Katharina Reiss e Christiane Nord em relação ao Funcionalismo, dos conceitos de Bakhtin sobre a palavra como um signo ideológico, e da tradução de elementos culturais, o presente trabalho tem por objetivo realizar uma análise dos elementos culturais apresentados nas tiras de Mafalda, no original em língua espanhola, e em suas respectivas traduções ao português brasileiro. Portanto, para nortear a presente investigação, pretende-se verificar que elementos culturais são evidenciados no gênero textual tiras, quais são as técnicas tradutórias utilizadas no processo de tradução dos elementos culturais de tal gênero e se as técnicas utilizadas são funcionais à construção de sentido pelo leitor-meta. Para a análise do corpus no texto-fonte, foi utilizada a 24ª edição da coletânea Toda Mafalda, publicada em fevereiro de 2010. A edição utilizada para análise do texto-meta data de 2009, sendo a 11ª tiragem da coletânea, traduzida por uma equipe de tradutores. Então, considerando as particularidades do gênero textual escolhido, propõe-se uma nova categorização específica dos elementos culturais no gênero textual tiras para a análise desta pesquisa. Tal categorização leva o nome de Textos Culturais Específicos (TCEs). Os TCEs encontrados estão classificados em seis categorias: Comidas; Crenças Populares; Personagens; Música; Expressão Idiomática e Jogos e Brincadeiras. A discussão dos dados é realizada por meio de uma análise comparativa de 12 tiras selecionadas, em relação aos TCEs apresentados e das respectivas técnicas de tradução utilizadas, sendo: tradução literal, adaptação e paráfrase. Logo, ao considerar os resultados obtidos a partir da análise dos dados, percebe-se que a tradução de elementos culturais é um fator determinante ao tratar das relações entre palavra e texto, texto e cultura e finalmente cultura e tradução, pois, as escolhas do tradutor serão funcionais se as características do gênero textual utilizado forem consideradas no processo tradutório, assim como o propósito a ser alcançado na tradução, o público-alvo em questão e o contexto no qual estão inseridos. <br> / Abstract : From the theoretical studies of Hans Vermeer, Katharina Reiss and Christiane Nord regarding the principles of Functionalism, Bakhtin?s concepts about the word as an ideological sign, and the translation of cultural elements, the present work aims to conduct an analysis of cultural elements shown in Mafalda comic strips in the original Spanish and their translations to Brazilian Portuguese. Therefore, to guide this research, it is intended to verify which cultural elements are highlighted in the text genre comic strips, which are the techniques used in the process of translation of cultural elements of this genre and if the techniques used are functional to the construction of meaning by the target reader. For the corpus analysis of the text, the source was the 24th edition of the collection Toda Mafalda, published in February 2010. The edition used for analysis of the target text dates from 2009, the 11th edition of the collection, translated by a team. Thus, considering the particularities of the chosen text genre, it is proposed a new specific categorization of cultural elements in the comic strips text genre for the analysis of this research. Such categorization is that of Cultural-Specific Texts (CST). The CSTs found are classified into six categories: Food, Popular Beliefs, Characters, Music, Idioms, and Games and Plays. The discussion of the data is achieved through a comparative analysis of 12 selected comic strips, in relation to CSTs and their respective translation techniques, which are literal translation, adaptation, and paraphrase. Therefore, when considering the results obtained from the analysis of the data, it is clear that the translation of cultural elements is a key factor when dealing with the relations between word and text, text and culture, and finally culture and translation, because the choices of the translator will be functional if the characteristics of the text genre are considered in the translation process, as well as the purpose to be achieved in the translation, the target audience in question, and the context in which they are inserted.
