Previous issue date: 2014 / O objetivo geral deste trabalho é analisar o tipo de gestão realizado nas moradias estudantis das universidades federais do sul do Brasil. Para o alcance de tal objetivo, optou-se pela pesquisa qualitativa, de caráter descritivo e interpretativo e aplicada. O critério de escolha das unidades de análise, além da localização, foram as similitudes e as políticas desenvolvidas nas moradias pesquisadas, mais precisamente aquelas presentes nas universidades federais (IFES) do sul do Brasil (UFSC, FURG, UFPel, UFRGS e UFSM). Para a coleta de dados, foram utilizadas a pesquisa documental e bibliográfica e entrevistas semi-estruturadas com responsáveis pela gestão das moradias estudantis indicados pelas IFES e pelos órgãos representativos vinculados à moradia e representante do Diretório Central dos Estudantes. Os dados coletados foram analisados por meio da análise de conteúdo. As moradias estudantis federais cumprem papel fundamental, abrigando estudantes universitários que vivem sob condições socioeconômicas desfavoráveis, e vêm de outras cidades, onde deixam suas famílias. Tais estudantes investem na escolarização como uma forma transformar e transmutar para outra classe social, e buscar uma carreira, tendo, para isso, de deixar seu lugar de origem, para morar com outras pessoas em condições semelhantes. Conclui-se, portanto, que, com base na concepção de Coradini (2009) e na realidade investigada, o tipo de gestão que prevalece nas moradias em foco é a democracia representativa, com algumas diferenças entre elas, sobretudo em relação à forma como a sua gestão é operacionalizada.<br> / Abstract : The general objective of this work is to analyze the type of management conducted in student housing at the federal universities in southern Brazil. To reach this goal, it was considered the applied, qualitative, descriptive and interpretive research. The criteria for choosing the analyze units, besides the location, were the similarities and policies developed in the surveyed student housings, specifically those found in the federal universities (IFES) placed in southern Brazil (UFSC, FURG, UFPel, UFRGS and UFSM). To obtain the data, it was considered the documental and bibliographic researchs and it was performed semi-structured interviews with the student housing managers listed by the studied IFES, the representative body of the student housings and with the a student representation. The collected data were analyzed using content analysis. Federal student housings play a critical role, because they accommodate the university students that live under unfavorable socioeconomic conditions, and come from other cities, from where they leave their families. Such students invest in schooling as a way to transform and transmute into another social class, and pursue a career, and for that, they have to leave their homeland, to live with others in similar circumstances. Therefore, it is concluded that, based on the Coradini (2009) conception and on the performed investigation, the type of management that prevails in the focused houses is the representative democracy, with some differences between them, specially related to how the management is performed.
