Previous issue date: 2015 / A presente pesquisa teve como objetivo investigar as relações entre envolvimento paterno e a abertura ao mundo em pais de crianças entre quatro a seis anos. Trata-se de um estudo exploratório descritivo, correlacional e comparativo de natureza quanti-qualitativa, do qual participaram vinte pais de crianças entre quatro a seis anos de idade. Os pais moravam ou conviveram com seus (a) filhos (a) por pelo menos um ano. Os participantes foram acessados por meio de uma Instituição de Educação Infantil em uma cidade do sul do Brasil. Os instrumentos utilizados foram: Questionário Sociodemográfico, Questionário de Engajamento Paterno (QEP), Questionário de Abertura ao Mundo (QOM) e Entrevista Semiestruturada de Envolvimento Paterno. Os dados quantitativos da pesquisa foram submetidos ao programa estatístico Statistical Package for Social Sciences e analisados de forma descritiva e correlacional. A Entrevista Semiestruturada de Envolvimento Paterno foi analisada conforme seu conteúdo utilizando-se o software Atlas.ti 5.1. Com a análise dos resultados, emergiram as seguintes categorias das entrevistas: Vivência da paternidade; Responsabilidade; Interação e Fatores que interferem no envolvimento paterno. Verifica-se que os pais descrevem a experiência da paternidade como algo desafiador acompanhado de muitas mudanças. Os pais relatam participar bastante da vida de seus (a) filhos (a) se envolvendo em atividades de cuidado e brincadeiras. Os entrevistados dividem tarefas de cuidado da casa e dos (a) filhos (a) com a esposa e são os provedores do sustento financeiro da família. Os resultados quantitativos mostraram que as dimensões do envolvimento paterno que obtiveram médias mais altas foram, respectivamente: jogos físicos, disciplina e cuidados básicos, apontando para uma participação do pai nos cuidados da criança e na brincadeira, por meio da qual impõe disciplina ao(a) filho(a). As médias mais altas para a abertura ao mundo foram, na sequência: estímulo à perseverança, estímulo a correr riscos e, por último, punição. Constatou-se que os pais mostram-se mais envolvidos com seus filhos do que com suas filhas, assim como, incentivam mais os meninos a experenciarem novas situações e relação com o ambiente extrafamiliar. No geral, pode-se afirmar que, apesar das diferenças para o envolvimento paterno e abertura ao mundo em função do sexo da criança, os pais mostraram-se envolvidos estimulando-as a explorar o ambiente e vivenciar novas relações com o mundo externo, promovendo sua autonomia.<br> / Abstract : This study is aimed at analyzing the relationship between parental involvement and openness to the world in parents of children between four to six years. It is a qualitative and quantitative study, with an exploratory, descriptive and correlational nature, developed with twenty parents of children between four to six years old. Parents lived together with or lived with their children at least for a year. A Childhood Education Institution in a city in southern Brazil helped with the access of the participants. The used instruments were the Sociodemographic Questionnaire, the Paternal Commitment Questionnaire (PCC), the Opening to the World Questionnaire (OWQ) and a Semi-structured Interview to evaluate the Parental Involvement. The quantitative data were analyzed in a descriptive and correlational way in the Statistical Package for Social Sciences. The semistructured interview to evaluate the parental involvement was analyzed by it content using the Atlas.ti 5.1 software. From the analysis of the results, the following categories emerged from the interviews: the experience of parenthood; responsibility; the interaction and factors that interfere with parental involvement. Was verified that parents describe the experience of parenthood as challenging accompanied by many changes. Parents fairly participate in the life of their children, engaging in leisure and care activities. The respondents split the tasks of housekeeping, children care with their spouses, and they are the providers of financial support the family. The quantitative results showed that the dimensions of parental involvement that scored highest averages were respectively: physical games, discipline and basic care, those results highlight for a father involvement in childcare and play through which imposes discipline the child. The highest averages in the openness to the world questions were in the sequence: encouraging perseverance, encouragement to take risks and finally, punishment. It was found that parents are more involved with their sons than with their daughters, as well as they encourage more their sons to experience new situations with respect to the extra-familial atmosphere. In general, we can say that despite differences for parental involvement and openness to the world depending on the sex of thechild, the father were involved with them, encouraging them to explore the environment and experience new relations with the outside world, promoting their independence.
