Previous issue date: 2016 / A experiência de tornar um espaço em lugar pode ser mediada pela afetividade, que compreende emoções e sentimentos, e orienta a maneira como os indivíduos habitam, circulam e sentem a cidade. Na concepção espinosana, os afetos sobrevêm nas relações estabelecidas com outros corpos e com o mundo, e tais encontros provocam modificações nas capacidades dos corpos para a ação e impelem o pensamento a novas direções, que podem variar positiva ou negativamente. Ora, se sentir também é uma forma de conhecer, a compreensão dos sentimentos que se nutre pelos espaços da cidade permite que se apreenda o que é a cidade para o habitante. Esta pesquisa ancorou-se na afetividade como categoria de análise para compreender e descrever a relação dos habitantes da cidade com a Praça Lauro Müller, em Campos Novos, no interior de Santa Catarina. As praças públicas constituem-se como elementos organizadores do espaço urbano e proporcionam encontro, socialização, descanso e atividade física. Estão ligadas à memória da cidade e representam (ou não) um convite para serem sítio de passagem ou de parada. A praça estudada passou por processo de reforma em 2012, evento que contribuiu para uma nova relação dos habitantes da cidade com este espaço público. Para estudar o binômio praça-habitante dentro da perspectiva da Psicologia Ambiental, utilizou-se do mapeamento comportamental para descrever os aspectos físicos e de uso da praça, e entrevistas semiestruturadas para investigar a afetividade na e pela praça. Os resultados de ambos os instrumentos foram discutidos de forma integrada dentro de três categorias: usos da praça; afetividade e representações da praça. Considerou-se que a afetividade revelou-se na estima pelo lugar e por conta disso a recuperação e reforma dos espaços da Praça Lauro Müller foram catalizadoras de processos de (re)apropriação, quando congregaram o antigo e o novo, o histórico e o moderno, a memória do lugar e aquilo que aponta para o futuro. A afetividade revelada neste estudo assinala uma nova forma de ocupação da praça, que respeita o passado da cidade, mas não denota retorno ao que era tal afetividade relaciona-se com evolução e com a retomada do espaço público com maior potência de agir e existir. <br> / Abstract : The experience of turning a physical space in a place may be mediated by affectivity, which includes emotions and feelings, that guides the way individuals live, circulate and feel the city. In Spinoza's view, the affections come upon the relationships established with other bodies and with the world, and such meetings cause changes in the capabilities of the body to action and urge the thinking in new directions, which can vary positively or negatively. To feel the city it is also a way of knowing the city, wich implies that to comprehend people s fellings about the city allows us to apprehend what is the city to the inhabitant. This research was anchored in the concept of affection as an analytical category to understand and describe the relationship of the city's inhabitants with Lauro Muller Square, in Campos Novos, Santa Catarina. Public squares are organizing elements of urban space and provide meeting, socialization, relaxation and physical activity. They are linked to the memory of the city and represent (or not) an invitation to be a site to cross or chill out. The square studied underwent the reform process in 2012, an event that contributed to a new relationship between city dwellers with this public space. To study the binomial square-inhabitant adopting the Environmental Psychology perspective, we applied behavioral mapping to describe the physical aspects and the square modes of use. We also conducted semi-structured interviews to investigate the affectivity that people experienced in the public square. The results of both instruments were discussed in an integrated way, within three analitycal categories: public square modes of use; affectivity and representations of the square. Lauro Müller Square rehabilitation promoted the process of reappropriation of the place by the population, because brought together the city s memory and the modernity in the same physical space. Affectivity revealed in this study marks a new form of occupation of the square, as regards the city's past, but does not denote return. Such affectivity relates to evolution and the resumption of public space with greater power to act and exist.
