Partindo da perspectiva de que não é somente a inserção e ascensão profissional que conduzem esses adultos a se alfabetizar, essa pesquisa busca conhecer suas reais expectativas diante de um espaço que os estimulem na prática da leitura, da escrita e dos cálculos. Dentre os trabalhadores participantes do curso de alfabetização desenvolvido por uma empresa de manutenção e limpeza pública de Florianópolis, foram selecionados para este estudo, quatro sujeitos (três mulheres, e um homem) para compor o cenário de investigação. Esses protagonistas, através do relato de suas histórias de vida, contribuíram para o delineamento de um universo que retratou o ato por se alfabetizar, como um passo para satisfazer outros desejos tais como: bem-estar pessoal, liberdade, inclusão e reconhecimento social. Os adultos alfabetizandos desta pesquisa desejam interagir com as outras pessoas não numa relação de dependência, mas numa relação de troca, onde possam compartilhar experiências e conhecimentos que os permitam perceberem-se como agentes capazes de gerirem suas próprias vidas, para assim, poderem intervir na sociedade. O desejo por se alfabetizar se apresenta como um mecanismo para a transposição de obstáculos que o mundo letrado impõe. Quando o indivíduo busca se alfabetizar ele anseia em atender as necessidades que perpassam a vida cotidiana. A satisfação dessas necessidades se configura como um direito, garantido por lei a todos os cidadãos. A pesquisa apontou que ao longo de suas vidas, esses sujeitos foram criando estratégias de sobrevivência para dar conta de uma lacuna social. Isso revela o potencial criativo desses adultos, demonstrando que seus conhecimentos também são elementos fundamentais no exercício de práticas diárias. Além disso, foi possível compreender o significado que esses indivíduos atribuem ao mundo letrado quando se trata da conquista por uma auto-estima mais elevada, bem como, por maior inserção e participação social.
This study deals with an inquiry concerning the desires of workers, regard to the fact of alphabetizing themselves. Starting from the perspective that it is not only the insertion and professional ascension that lead these adults to alphabetizer themselves, this research focus on knowing its real expectations facing a space which stimulates them in the reading practice, the writing and the calculations. Among the workers, who are participants of the alphabetizing course developed by a public maintenance and cleaning company of Florianópolis, were selected for this study, four citizens (three women, and a man) to compose the inquiry scene. These protagonists, through the telling of their life history, have contributed for the outlining of a universe which portrayed the act to be alphabetized, as a step to satisfy other desires such as: personal well-being, freedom, inclusion and social recognition. The literate adults of this research are looking forward to interact with the other people not in a relation of dependence, but in a relation of exchange, where they can share experiences and knowledge, which allow them to realize themselves as agents able to manage their own lives, thus, they will be able to interpose in the society. The desire for alphabetizing is presented as a mechanism for the transposition of obstacles that the scholar world imposes. When the person seeks for alphabetization he wishes he will be able to deal with tasks which beyond the ones of his daily life. The fulfilling of such necessities is built as a right, guaranteed by the law to all the citizens. The research pointed that throughout their lives, these citizens created survival strategies to be able to fill out a social gap. It all shows the creative potential of these adults, demonstrating that their knowledge is also a basic element in the exercise of daily practice. Moreover, it was possible to understand the meaning that these individuals attribute to the scholar world, when it is related to the conquest of bigger auto-esteem, as well as, of a wider social participation.
