Os significados do trabalho como estratégias de enfrentamento dessa situação, surgem diversas formas organizativas de trabalho, como por exemplo as feiras. Assim, essa pesquisa teve por objetivo caracterizar os significados que os feirantes atribuem ao seu trabalho em condições precárias. O método teve um embasamento etnográfico, por meio de observações do cotidiano do trabalho da Feira do Largo da Ordem em Curitiba-PR, na qual os fatos e relatos informais eram registrados nos diários de campo. Foram aplicados protocolos para levantamento do perfil sócio-econômico junto a todos os feirantes proprietários das barracas e trabalhadores subcontratados, pertencentes ao setor de alimentação e artesanato; e realizadas 31 entrevistas semi-estruturadas com alguns informantes identificados como chave dos dois setores e das duas categorias de trabalhadores. A coleta e análise dos dados tiveram como eixo central as categorias de análise decorrentes dos estudos sobre os significados do trabalho desenvolvidos pelo Grupo MOW (1987): centralidade do trabalho, crenças normativas do trabalho, valores laborais relacionados aos resultados ideais (metas) do trabalho e às preferências laborais; e as categorias referentes às condições precárias do trabalho do feirante: perfil sócio-econômico dos participantes; a trajetória histórica e os produtos que compõem a feira do largo da ordem; a organização e as condições de trabalho, tais como: ritmo, carga de trabalho, condições climáticas, controle/autonomia, segurança, estrutura física, materiais ou ferramentas de trabalho (tecnologia transporte de mercadorias); e os aspectos ligados à informalidade e precarização do trabalho. Por meio da análise dos resultados foi possível conhecer as condições de trabalho dos feirantes, que é caracterizada por relações de trabalho informais em diferentes graus e precária em várias dimensões, como: contratual, espaço-temporal, social e de bem-estar. Constatou-se também que os valores familiares permeiam as relações de trabalho, pois esse é um trabalho que, comumente, envolve várias pessoas da família. Em relação aos significados do trabalho para os feirantes, tal como nas pesquisas do MOW, verificou-se que no que se refere à centralidade do trabalho em relação a outras esferas da vida; o trabalho ocupa o segundo lugar, após a família. A centralidade do trabalho ocorre de forma instrumental, ou seja, está ligada à busca de sobrevivência e da manutenção do bem-estar da família. Por fim, destaca-se que o trabalho é constituído por uma rede de significados e de relacionamentos que tornam esse ambiente de trabalho rico em experiências, que é de grande relevância para estudos científicos especialmente os da Psicologia. / The productive rebuilding and the work flexibility demanded by globalization brought less work places, unemployement and a precarious way of and consequently, that is reflected in the meanings attributed to that work. Within this context, the aim of this research was to point out the meanings that the street merchants assign to their precarious condition work. The method had an ethnographic embasement in observations of the were made about the daily work in the Largo da Ordem Fair in Curitiba - PR, and the central axis are the analysis categories coming from the studies about the work meanings developed by MOW Group (1987): work central way, normative beliefs of work, labor values related to the ideal results (goals) and labor preferences and the categories related to the street merchant work precarious conditions: the participants' socioeconomic profile; the historical path and the products that compose the fair of the square of the order; the organization and the work conditions, such as: rhythm, work load, climatic conditions, control/autonomy, safety, structures physics, materials or work tools (technology transport of goods); and the linked aspects to the informality and precarious of the work. A protocol was also applied to find out the social-economic profile of the street merchants who are: stands owners and their employees who belong to food and handmade sectors. Some interviews were made part-structured with informers identified as the key: the owners and their employees. It was possible to know the strreet merchant work conditions through the analisys of the results which are characterized by informal working relations in different levels (owners and employees). The work conditions are precarious under many ways: labor agreement, time, social and well-being. It was also verified that the family values include the work relations because the whole family is involved. As to the work meanings to the street merchants, according to the MOW researches about the value preference order, it was found out that work comes in second place after family, in what she refers to the centralidade of the work in relation to other spheres of the life; the work occupies the second place, after the family. Finally, he stands out that the work is constituted by a net of meanings and of relationships that turn that it adapts of rich work in experiences, that it is especially of great relevance for scientific studies the one of the Psychology.
