Previous issue date: 2007-03-23 / A presente pesquisa, de cunho exploratório, procura identificar e observar alguns dos elementos que constituem a noção proposta de Máquina de Sheherazade. Partindo da alegoria da contadora de estórias que precisa sobreviver por mais uma noite é construído um modelo de entendimento do funcionamento das histórias em quadrinhos seriadas comerciais partindo-se da definição de máquina em Deleuze e Guattari. Busca-se tal recorte por serem estes quadrinhos os mais presentes na construção do imaginário social, em especial o infanto-juvenil. O trabalho utiliza a semiótica de Hjelmslev em conjunção com o imaginário radical de Castoriadis para observar como se constrói o sentido na leitura por imagens. A filosofia de Spinoza é convocada para explicar o afeto e o desejo frustrado pelo corte efetuado pela narradora como forças operacionais do consumo. As engrenagens da máquina são identificadas em Barthes e examinadas através da observação de quadrinhos brasileiros, estadunidenses e japoneses. Confirmada a existência conceitual da Máquina de Sheherazade nos quadrinhos, a pesquisa constrói um instrumento de análise e elementos configuradores sobre observações a respeito da imanência do objeto. / The present research has as its objective the identification and observation of some of the elements which compose the proposed notion of the Sheherazade Machine; thus, its exploratory instead of statistical nature. Stemming from the allegory of the story-teller who must survive one more night, a model for the understanding of commercial serialized comic books is built. The start point is the Deleuze and Guattari definition of machine. This choice of object is due to the importance of such comics in the construction of the social imaginary in children and teenagers. The project uses the semiotics of Hjelmslev in conjunction with the theory of the social imaginary of Castoriadis in order to explain how meaning is constructed and reading is possible through the sequential disposition of images. The philosophy of Spinoza is used to explain affections and how frustrated desire through the cuts in the narrative may collaborate with the operational forces of consumerism to guarantee the survival of the comic book. The engines in the machine are derived from the analysis of Roland Barthes and then observed in action in three distinct comic book practices: in the USA, Japanese manga, and Brazilian kiddie comics. Having confirmed the existence of the said machine in comic books, the research questions if other forms of communication might exhibit the same behaviour.
