cruz_ga_me_sjc.pdf: 1092869 bytes, checksum: 24d3b7077eac2226943f10da08756713 (MD5) / Neste estudo foram avaliadas as influências do consumo de cigarro e da idade na distância da crista óssea alveolar de pacientes fumantes, ex-fumantes e não fumantes, utilizando radiografias periapicais da região de pré-molares da maxila e mandíbula. 60 pacientes adultos, do sexo feminino e do masculino, com idade de 25 a 50 anos foram divididos em três grupos: 20 fumantes, 20 ex-fumantes e 20 não fumantes. Foram consideradas a quantidade de cigarro e o tempo de consumo. Parâmetros clínicos foram avaliados: o índice de placa (IPI) índice gengival (IG), profundidade de sondagem (PS), nível da margem gengival (NMG) e nível clínico de inserção (NCI). As radiografias intra-bucais foram realizadas pela técnica periapical do paralelismo utilizando-se filmes ultra-rápidos Insight e posicionadores tipo Hanshin. As radiografias foram digitalizadas em software Image Tool (UTHSCSA, versão 1.28, 1995-1997) e o nível da crista óssea alveolar foi obtido em milímetros. Os dados obtidos mostraram que a maioria dos pacientes apresentou escore 0 para IPI e IG, NMG, sendo que PS e NCI apresentaram 2mm. Porém houve diferença estatística significativa entre a distância da COA-JCE nas faces mesiais e distais para não fumantes, quando comparado ao ex-fumantes e fumantes, segundo teste de Kruskal Wallis p<0,05. Houve maior aumento da distância da COA-JCE para fumantes, quando comparados com ex-fumantes para o tempo de exposição ao cigarro e para idade quando comparados com ex-fumantes e não fumantes. Esses resultados sugerem que a perda óssea nos fumantes independe da presença de doença periodontal / This study evaluated the influence of smoking and age on periodontal bone heights of the current smokers, former smokers and non-smokers, using radiographic measurements and clinical evaluations of the premolar regions of the maxilla and mandible. 60 adults were selected, males and females, 25 to 50 years old, which were divided into three groups: 20 current smokers, 20 former smokers and 20 non-smokers. The number of cigarettes smoked per day and the lifetime exposure were considered. Clinical parameters were evaluated: plaque index (PI), gingival bleeding (GB), probing depth (PD, gingival margin (GM) and attachment loss (AL). The intraoral radiographics were taken of premolars sites using the paralleling technique and Insight films attached to the Hanshin cones The periodontal bone heights were radiographically assessed as millimeters of the dental digitized images that used Image tool software (UTHSCSA, versão 1.28, 1995-1997). The results show that the majority of patients exhibited PI, GB and GM score of 0, PD and AL of 2mm. The periodontal bone heights showed statistically significant differences to current smokers and former smokers in the mesial and distal surfaces in the maxilla and mandible by the Kruskal Wallis test (p<0,05) when they were compared with non-smokers. Current smokers showed an increased in the periodontal bone height when they were compared to former smokers in the lifetime exposure and it when it was compared to former smokers and non-smokers according to their ages. These findings suggest current smokers exhibits an increased level of alveolar crest bone independent of the periodontal disease
