Previous issue date: 2003 / Resumo: A presente pesquisa teve como objetivo a tentativa de compreender como um grupo de crianças pertencente ao quarto ano do ensino fundamental em uma escola pública da periferia da cidade de São Paulo pensava, sentia e agia perante a questão da cor da pele, tendo em vista as múltiplas significações constituídas sobre os diferentes aspectos que envolvem o tema (aspectos físicos, psíquicos, sociais e históricos). Escolhemos a escola como lugar de ancoramento para a realização da escuta e da análise da questão estipulada como foco de estudo, sem considerá-la, entretanto, como única responsável pela configuração dos determinantes que constituem a significação da cor da pele. A partir da composição de um grupo de crianças, procedemos à realização de uma série de encontros ao longo de um semestre letivo, encontros estes registrados de diversas formas ¿ diário de campo, áudio e vídeo. As atividades foram propostas e construídas ao longo dos encontros, com base nas temáticas vividas e experienciadas pelo grupo. As análises do material empírico encontram-se referenciadas na perspectiva histórico-cultural do desenvolvimento humano e mostram como as significações são constituídas tendo em vista os modos de relação e posicionamentos sociais ocupados / Abstract: The present research project has the objective of trying to comprehend how a group of children of the fourth year of the elementary public school in the suburb of São Paulo think about, feel and act upon the matter of their skin color. We did this by having in mind the multiple meanings constituted of the different aspects that involve the theme (physical, psychical, social and historical). We chose the school as an anchor place for the hearing and for the analysis of the question that relies as focus of the study, without considering, nevertheless, as the only thing responsible for the configuration of the determining points, which constitute the meaning of the color skin. From the composition of a children¿s group, we proceeded the realization of a series of meetings throughout an entire semester, being those meeting registered in several ways ¿ field¿s journal, audio and video. The activities were proposed and build as the meetings took place, having as a base the themes lived and experienced by the group. The analysis of the empirical material have references in the Historical-cultural perspective of the human development and show how the meanings are built, considering the ways of relationship and the types of social positioning / Mestrado
