Previous issue date: 1996 / Resumo: Neste trabalho, foi verificado o efeito da utilização de folhas de eucalipto (Eucaliptus citriodora) e tratamento ténnico (70°C por 8 min), comparando-os com o tratamentos químicos de aplicação de inseticida (Sumithion) e expurgo (fosfina), respectivamente, no controle do inseto Acanthoscelides obtectus (Say) no feijão (Phaseolus vulgaris L.) armazenado. o feijão foi armazenado com umidade de 13,4%, em sacos de aniagem de 22 kg cada, à temperatura ambiente. Nove tratamento foram utilizados. Inicialmente, o feijão foi caracterizado através da classificação comercial e as propriedades fisicas, peso específico aparente, peso específico real, porosidade e curvas de umidade de equilíbrio. O produto foi armazenado por 8 meses e mensalmente foram realizadas análises de umidade, grau de infestação e perda de peso. A cada 2 meses foram realizadas detenninações de acidez e análise sensorial. Os resultados demonstraram que o feijão sem nenhum tipo de tratamento apresentou o maior índice de infestação. Os tratamentos ténnico e folha de eucalipto se equivalem em eficiência. Os tratamentos folha de eucalipto, expurgo e tratamento ténnico-folha de eucalipto se equivalem em eficiência. Os tratamentos ténnico-folha de eucalipto, expurgo-folha de eucalipto, inseticida, tratamento ténnico-inseticida e
expurgo-inseticida também se equivalem em eficiência e foram os que se mostraram mais eficazes no controle do caruncho do feijão armazenado, sendo que o tratamento alternativo mais indicado para a conservação do produto foi o tratamento ténnico- folha de eucalipto. As folhas de eucalipto não proporcionaram alteração no sabor, porém ocasionaram um aumento no teor de umidade do feijão armazenado / Abstract: The objective of this work was to verify the use of eucalyptus leaves (Euca/iptus citriodora) and thermal treatment (70°C for 8 min) in comparison with chemical treatment using insecticide (Sumithion) and fumigation (phosphine), respectively, in the control of the insect canthosce/ides obtectus (Say) in stored beans (Phaseo/us vu/garis L.). The product was stored with 13,4% moisture content, w.b., in bags of 22 kg each, at room temperature. Nine treatments were used. lnitially, the beans were commercially classified and the physical properties true density, bulk density, porosity and equilibrium moisture content were determined. The product was stored for 8 months and once a month moisture content, infestation
leveI and lose of weight were measured. At every 2 months acidity and sensory analysis were realized. The results showed that the beans with no treatment had a higher rate of infestation. The thermal and eucalyptus leaves treatments were similar in efficiency. The eucalyptus leaves, fumigation and thermal-eucalyptus leaves treatments were also similar in efficiency. The thermal treatment-eucalyptus leaves, fumigation-eucalyptus leaves, insecticide, thermal treatment-insecticide and fumigation insecticide were also similar in efficiency and showed a stronger effect in the control of stored bruchid beans. However the best altemative treatment for insect control in beans was the combination of thermal treatment-eucaliptus leaves. The product stored with eucalyptus leaves had no change in the taste of the cooked beans, but the moisture content of the beans showed some increase during the storage period / Mestrado / Pre-Processamento de Produtos Agropecuarios / Mestre em Engenharia Agrícola
