Previous issue date: 2007 / Resumo: Realizamos um estudo dos sentidos da palavra preconceito analisando suas designações a partir da teoria da Semântica do Acontecimento. Nosso corpus é constituído por definições desta palavra retiradas de alguns dicionários de grande circulação nos séculos XX e XXI. Consideramos, nesta perspectiva, que os sentidos se constituem no acontecimento enunciativo na relação com a história, o social e com o político. Tomamos o dicionário como lugar de observação entendendo-o como um instrumento de gramatização, situando-nos, com isso, no âmbito da História das Idéias Lingüísticas. Consideramos o dicionário como um observatório histórico e social que permite observarmos os sentidos da palavra preconceito na língua normatizada, e, em contrapartida, os sentidos que estão silenciados nele, mas que circulam na sociedade. Desse modo, procuramos compreender como o preconceito é entendido em outras áreas do conhecimento como as Ciências Sociais, a Psicologia e a própria Lingüística em contraste com a análise das definições lexicográficas. Isso nos levou a considerar uma forma de compreender o preconceito considerando-o do ponto de vista dos sentidos. Quanto à análise das definições lexicográficas observamos que elas não acompanham as discussões sobre o preconceito que têm como foco a exclusão social, incluindo tardiamente os sentidos relacionados a este tema / Abstract: We conducted a study of the sense of the word prejudice, analyzing its designations based on the theory of the Semântica do Acontecimento(Semantics of the Events). Our corpus is formed by this word definitions taken from popular dictionaries of 20th and 21st centuries. We consider, based on this theoretical foundation, that the senses are formed in the enunciative events, connected to the history, to the social as well as to the politics. Understanding the dictionary as place of observation, thus as a place of grammatical instrument, we placed this study in the field of História das Idéias Lingüísticas (History of Linguistics Ideas) . We consider the dictionary as an observable social and historical place which allows us to study the senses of the word prejudice to what extent the formal descriptive language, as well as on the other hand, the senses which are silenced in itself; however still circulating in the society. Taking the considerations above, we tried to understand how prejudices are understood in other knowledge fields like Social Sciences, Psychology and even Linguists itself to the extent how it contrasts to the lexicographic definitions. Those viewpoints led us to consider a way of understanding the preconceptions considering it from the point of view of senses. Towards the analysis of the lexicographic definitions, we observed that they are not present in the discussions about prejudices which focus the social exclusion.
