Previous issue date: 2001 / Resumo: A noção de metalinguagem, de origem lógica, foi trazida para os estudos afasiológicos por JAKOBSON (1954, 1956, 1960) para explicar problemas lingüísticos apresentados por sujeitos afásicos. Posteriormente, LEBRUN (1983) serve-se também dessa noção motivado pelo esforço de retirar das explicações sobre a afasia o peso da concepção herdada da Afasiologia clássica de que a afasia seria um problema de linguagem interna, ou seja, reputada ao domínio mental.
Esta Dissertação tem como proposta rediscutir a noção de metalinguagem no campo da Neurolingüística, focalizando, em especial, o estudo das afasias. Em primeiro lugar, procura-se apontar o contexto teórico em que o conceito passou a ser
utilizado nos estudos da área e as implicações que resultaram para a compreensão do fenômeno afásico. Em segundo lugar, pretende-se verificar como, a partir de estudos enunciativos atuais e dos postulados vygotskianos sobre a linguagem e sobre a relação entre linguagem e cognição, a noção pode ser reinterpretada, oferecendo novos elementos para o entendimento do fenômeno afásico, bem como orientando o olhar que se têm sobre a linguagem de sujeitos afásicos nas situações de avaliação e acompanhamento terapêutico. Para realizar este percurso, além de apontar como a noção foi tratada em estudos lingüísticos dos anos 80 do século XX, passa-se por reflexões na área de Psicolingüística uma vez que o tema neste campo tem sido relacionado ao interesse crescente da criança sobre a linguagem. Para ilustrar as reflexões sobre a metalinguagem, vista do ângulo de uma perspectiva enunciativa da linguagem e da relação entre linguagem e cognição, apoiar-se-á em exemplos com dados já registrados por pesquisadores da área de Neurolingüística do Departamento de Lingüística do Instituto de Estudos da Linguagem da UNICAMP / Abstract: The idea of metalanguage, of logical origin, was introduced into the aphasiological studies by JAKOBSON (1954, 1956, 1960) to explain the linguistic problems manifested by aphasic subjects. Subsequent1y,LEBRUN (1983) also uses this idea motivated by the effort to lift the weight of the inherited concept of classic Aphasiology that aphasia might be a problem of "inner speech", that is, considered to be in the mental dominion. This dissertation proposes to reopen the discussion of the idea of metalanguage in the field of Neurolinguistics, focussing specifically on the study of aphasias. For this movement, firstly, it is necessary to point out the theoretical context in which the concept was first used in the studies of aphasia and the implications that resulted in a greater understanding of the aphasic occurrence. Secondly, it intends to corroborate, starting with current enunciative studies and the vygotskian postulates about language and the relationship between language and cognition, the idea may be reinterpreted, suggesting new elements for the comprehension of the aphasic ocurrence and
to orient the view one has of the language of persons with aphasic problems in an environment of evaluation and therapeutic participation. To accomplish this, besides pointing out how this idea was dealt with in linguistic studies in the 80's of the XX century, reflections in the area of Psicolinguistics are reviewed since the topic in this area has been connected to the growing interest about language in children. In order to illustrate the reflections about metalanguage as seen through the angle of the
enunciative perspective of language and of the relationship between language and cognition, examples are used with data already recorded by researches in the area of Neurolinguistics in the Department of Linguistics of the Institute of Language Studies of UNICAMP / Mestrado / Mestre em Linguística
