Previous issue date: 2005 / Resumo: Este trabalho analisa as concepções de alguns médicos eugenistas brasileiros sobre paternidade e homossexualidade, em obras publicadas entre as décadas de 1920 e 1940. Para tanto, investigou-se, em primeiro lugar, as influências teóricas recebidas por esses médicos e suas atuações nos campos da medicina legal e da psiquiatra. A análise das obras desses autores explicitou as diferenças de gênero, raça e classe na abordagem médica sobre sexualidade e reprodução. Em seguida, pesquisou-se a paternidade em duas vertentes: a da hereditariedade, que referia-se especialmente à possibilidade reprodutiva do ato sexual e a da investigação da paternidade. Por último, se enfocou como a homossexualidade foi tratada nessas obras e, notadamente, na associação entre homossexualidade e moral familiar. Concluiu-se que a abordagem dos médicos sobre paternidade e homossexualidade esteve pautada num debate mais amplo sobre a nação e o tipo de brasileiro que se almejava para o país. Neste sentido, o papel do homem na reprodução foi visto, essencialmente, do ponto de vista do ato sexual gerador do filho e as intervenções médicas se deram, sobretudo, na regulação da sexualidade masculina heterossexual. A homossexualidade, por sua vez, considerada como doença e vista como um comportamento sexual desviante, torna-se, no âmbito familiar, alvo de discursos médicos que assinalam a educação como forma de preveni-la. Em ambos os temas, a abordagem médica não foi homogênea, mas pontuada por diferenciações de gênero, raça e classe / Abstract: This work analyzes the conceptions of some Brazilian eugenicists doctors on paternity and homosexuality, in works published between the decades of 1920 and 1940. For that, we investigated, in the first place, the theoretical influences received by these doctors and their consequent performances in the legal medicine and the psychiatric fields. The analysis of these authors¿ works evidenced the differences of gender, race and class in the medical approaches on sexuality and reproduction. Following, we researched paternity through two lines: on one hand, through the hereditariness, which was referred especially to the reproductive possibility of the sexual act, and, on the other hand, to the investigation of paternity. Finally, we focused on how homosexuality was treated in these works and, notably, into the association between homosexuality and familiar morality. We concluded that the doctors¿ approach on paternity and homosexuality was guided by a wider debate based on nation and the type of Brazilian that was expected for the country. In this sense, man¿s role in reproduction was seen, essentially, through the point of view of the sexual act that was a child¿s generator and the medical interventions occurred, above all, in the regulation of the heterosexual masculine sexuality. Homosexuality, by its turn, considered as an illness and viewed as a deviant sexual behavior, becomes, to the family, a target for medical discourses that designate the education as a way to prevent it.
