Previous issue date: 2004 / Resumo: O presente trabalho investigou espaços e olhares. Buscou respostas para perguntas que surgiram numa ala crônica de um hospital psiquiátrico. Formou-se através de detalhes e falas inesquecíveis, em três lugares anti-manicomiais que oferecem oficinas de arte para os que são considerados insanos do serviço de saúde mental público no Estado de São Paulo. A questão que moveu este estudo teve relação, principalmente, com os sintomas institucionais que persistem, mesmo em ambientes ¿coloridos¿. O processo possibilitou a descoberta de muitas linguagens que puderam comunicar a arte e a loucura que o trabalho necessariamente possuiu. A trilha dos escritos e das imagens seguiu uma direção de reconhecimento e desconstrução de conceitos, atitudes e olhares prontos, numa metodologia que se construiu a partir de entrevistas, observações, reflexões, registros e desenhos. Não buscou uma proposta de ser e de fazer coisas, mas acabou mostrando como direcionamos nosso olhar, como o olhar depende do local que falamos e como o olhar constrói. Um olhar que pode ver as sombras e o sol por detrás. Um olhar que pode enxergar vida e tornar vivo o trabalho com pessoas que sofrem num mundo estranho e cheio de instituições doentes / Abstract: This study investigated places and ways of seeing in a search for answers to questions that emerged in the chronic ward of a psychiatric hospital. It was shaped through details and unforgettable accounts from professionals of three anti-institutional settings in public mental health services of the State of São Paulo that offer art workshops for those considered insane. The issue that motivated the study was related to institutional symptoms that persist, even in ¿colored¿ environments. The process enabled the discovery of many languages that were able to express both art and insanity accompanying this study. The trail of writings and images followed the direction of recognition and deconstruction of ready-made concepts, attitudes and views, using a methodology built on interviews, observations, reflection and drawings. Instead of seeking a proposal with easy answers, this study shows how we direct our views, and how the way we see things depends on the place from which we speak and on the construction of vision. A vision able to see shadows and the sun coming from behind. A vision able to see life and make the text come alive with people that suffer in the strange world filled with institutions which are ill themselves / Mestrado / Mestre em Artes
