Previous issue date: 2001 / Resumo: Este trabalho pretende analisar de que maneira a literatura brasileira está sendo incorporada à World Wide Web nestes primeiros anos da rede mundial de computadores. A hipótese que subjaz ao estudo é a de que, sendo um novo suporte textual e um novo veículo de circulação de bens simbólicos, a Web pode interferir tanto na maneira como os textos literários são produzidos, quanto na forma de recepção da literatura, modificando conseqüentemente alguns aspectos das funções de autor e de leitor, assim como a própria concepção de "texto" e de "literatura". Em contrapartida, pretende-se mostrar que, ao veicular produtos literários, a Web, assim como ocorre com outros meios eletrônicos como a TV e o rádio, não rompe totalmente com a tradição literária, que em grande medida se formou e se consolidou graças à técnica da impressão e ao suporte "livro". Assim, os escritores, editores, críticos e estudiosos da literatura que navegam pela Web dialogam hoje tanto com a cultura literária em que foram formados, quanto com as possibilidades técnicas, econômicas e textuais abertas pelo novo veículo e pelo novo suporte. No campo da literatura, a Web seria então um componente a mais do sistema literário, dialeticamente prolongando-o e alterando-o no ciberespaço / Abstract: This dissertation aims to study how Brazilian literature is being incorporated into the World Wide Web during these initial years of the global computer network. Our hypothesis is that as a new medium for texts and a new space where symbolic goods circulate, the WWW may change some aspects both in the writing of literary texts and in its reception. As a result, it is
highly probable that the Web will end up altering the very concepts of "text" and "literature". On the other hand, we attempt to argue that, like other electronic means of communication, the Web doesn't break away completely from literary tradition when it is used as a vehicle for literary texts. On the contrary, it relies on this tradition, which was largely shaped and sustained by the press culture and by the book formato For that reason, writers, readers, publishers, critics and scholars who now surf the Web not only dialog with the literary culture in which they were educated but also with the new technical, commercial and textual features offered by the WWW.
