Previous issue date: 2007 / O histórico das práticas de saúde perpassam a antigüidade, desde antes de Cristo (a.C). Na Inglaterra, Florence Nightingale, considerada precursora da Enfermagem Moderna, instituiu a primeira escola de enfermeiras no Hospital Saint Thomas, em 1860, posteriormente, esse modelo foi adotado aqui no Brasil, sem, contudo, verificar a realidade da saúde brasileira daquela época. Esta pesquisa teve como objeto a criação da primeira escola de nível superior do estado de São Paulo, a Escola de Enfermeiras do Hospital São Paulo (EEHSP), atual Departamento de Enfermagem da Universidade Federal de São Paulo (UNIFESP), fundada em 1939. Analisou também o processo de elaboração de seu primeiro currículo, buscando compreender as pessoas e as instituições envolvidas nesse processo e a base do modelo educacional que foi implantado na época. O recorte temporal compreendeu o período de 1939, ano de fundação da Escola, a 1942, quando foi diplomada a primeira turma. Utilizou-se como referencial teórico a historiografia, particularmente aquela que trata do currículo, também foram utilizadas fontes primárias, secundárias e o depoimento fundamental de uma ex-aluna da primeira turma da Escola de Enfermagem. A pesquisa foi construída a partir de uma abordagem qualitativa, na qual os dados foram obtidos com a análise documental, cujo material está acondicionado no acervo do Departamento de Enfermagem da UNIFESP. Verificamos o importante papel que a Igreja Católica desenvolveu na criação da Escola e constatamos ainda que o desenho do primeiro currículo foi pautado no modelo educacional da Escola Anna Nery, considerada como estabelecimento oficial naquela época. Os catedráticos da faculdade de medicina de certa forma impuseram o currículo, de forma verticalizada e sem discussão com as enfermeiras docentes da Escola. / The history of health practices go far beyond the ancient times, even before Jesus Christ. In England, Florence Nightingale, who is considered to be the predecessor of Modern Nursing, instituted the first nurses school at the Saint Thomas Hospital , in 1860. Further, this model was adopted here in Brazil but, without considering the reality of the Brazilian health at that time. This research had as a goal the establishment of the first college in the State of Sâo Paulo, the Escola de Enfermeiras (Nurses School) at the São Paulo Hospital (EEHSP), nowadays the Nursing Department at the Federal University of São Paulo (UNIFESP), established in 1939. It has also analyzed the process of elaborating its first curriculum , trying the understand the people and the institutions involved in such process and, the base of the educational model that was implemented at that time. The research timeframe encompassed 1939, the year the school was established, until 1942, when the first group graduated. It was used as a theoretical reference the historiography, mainly the one that refers to the curriculum. It was also used primary sources, secondary ones and, the essential testimony of a former student from the first group of Nursing School. The research was built up from a qualitative approach , where the data were obtained by means of a documental analysis, whose material is kept in the assets of the UNIFESP Nursing Department. We checked the important role played by the Catholic Church regarding the establishment of the school and, we verified that draft of the first curriculum was based on the Anna Nery School educational mode, considered as an official establishment at that time. The professors at the medical college, in a way, imposed the curriculum in a vertical form, without discussing it with the School nurse professors. / BV UNIFESP: Teses e dissertações
