Previous issue date: 2012-08-13 / Coordenação de Aperfeiçoamento de Pessoal de Nível Superior - CAPES / This work is the result of the completion of field research at the Center for Women's Reeducation Maria Julia Maranhão, a prison for the confinement of women offenders, located in the city of João Pessoa. This understanding of religious experience lived by prisoners and aims at analyzing the religious women's prison. During the research we found that religious groups take turns on Saturdays to allow them the word of God is preached even in confinement. Socio-anthropological character, the survey sought to observe and listen to the inmates about their attitudes toward religion, the likely behavioral changes attributed to faith in God and religion and their expectations of life after prison. In this context, we conduct that brings the text in its considerations to characterize the Brazilian penitentiary system and Paraíba, the situation of women prisoners and the possibilities of the prison offers rehabilitation, as well as reports of religious experiences of women who find themselves transformed by faith presented to them in prison. / Este trabalho é fruto da conclusão da pesquisa de campo realizada no Centro de Reeducação
Feminina Maria Júlia Maranhão, um presídio destinado ao confinamento de mulheres
infratoras, situado na cidade de João Pessoa-PB. Trata da compreensão da experiência
religiosa vivida por prisioneiras e tem como objetivo principal analisar o campo religioso
prisional feminino. Durante a pesquisa pudemos observar que grupos religiosos se revezam
aos sábados para possibilitarem que a palavra de Deus seja pregada mesmo no confinamento.
De caráter socioantropológico, a pesquisa buscou observar e ouvir as detentas quanto as suas
atitudes diante da religião, as prováveis mudanças comportamentais atribuídas à fé em Deus e
a religião e suas expectativas de vida pós-prisão. Nesse contexto, buscamos conduzir o texto
que traz em suas considerações a caracterização do sistema penitenciário brasileiro e
paraibano, a situação das mulheres encarceradas e as possibilidades de reabilitação que o
cárcere oferece, bem como, relatos de experiências religiosas de mulheres que se veem
transformadas pela fé que lhes foi apresentada dentro da prisão.
