Previous issue date: 2011-12-22 / This work originates from the need to question the aim of Biology: the life. The discourse on life that emanates from Biology but being confounded with the possibility of a concept for life. It occurs, that to understand ―what kind of life is that of Biology?‖, it is necessary to understand the organization movement of Biological Science and their distinctive outlooks about the several forms of life, of living creatures, as a sustenance science of Biology, or of the life discourse proclaimed by Biology. Therein, one may perceive not only the difference between the terms ―Biological Science‖ and ―Biology‖, but also the kind of connection that results from the organization of them, in the endeavour of building a statute of the unified knowledge, proper and unique from and for this one. What is placed in the next lines is an inventory about the mode how the discourse about life appears referenced in the Biology schoolbooks utilized in the private schools of Porto Alegre, RS, Brazil, between the years 2000 and 2010. Comparisons, observations and ponderations about how life and the living creatures are presented and worked in these books in reference to study of the ―characteristics of living creatures‖ and the theories which treat of the ―life s origin‖. Around a ―discourse on life‖, Biology makes living arise not a concept, univocal and abstract, but as a flexible category, of classification whose limits have possibility of enlargement of that discoursive field and of their connections the more forms of life are been known, the living creatures and their singularities. That is the motion that makes a science like Biology not to exhaust and which warrants the perpetuation of a discourse on life, endowed with a certain plasticity which ends by to warrant its constant accommodation in the space among the prefixed limits of the artificial criterions of classification. / Este trabalho nasceu da necessidade de questionar o objeto da Biologia: a vida. O discurso sobre a vida que emana da Biologia, mas que ? confundido com a possibilidade de um conceito para a vida. Ocorre que, para que se possa compreender ―que vida ? essa, a da Biologia?‖, ? preciso compreender o movimento de organiza??o das Ci?ncias Biol?gicas e suas distintas perspectivas em torno de diferentes formas de vida, dos vivos, como ci?ncias de sustenta??o da Biologia, ou, do discurso da vida apregoado pela Biologia. Nesse sentido, se percebe n?o apenas a distin??o entre os termos ―Ci?ncias Biol?gicas‖ e ―Biologia‖, mas tamb?m o tipo de rela??o que decorre da organiza??o daquelas, na tentativa de constru??o de um estatuto do saber unificado, pr?prio e ?nico desta - para esta. O que est? colocado nas linhas que seguem ? um invent?rio sobre o modo como o discurso sobre a vida aparece referenciado nos livros did?ticos de Biologia utilizados por escolas da rede particular de ensino de Porto Alegre, RS, Brasil, entre os anos de 2000 e 2010. S?o realizadas compara??es, observa??es e pondera??es sobre como a vida e os vivos s?o apresentados e trabalhados por estes livros no que tange ao estudo das ―caracter?sticas dos seres vivos‖ e das teorias que versam sobre a ―origem da vida‖. Em torno de um ―discurso sobre a vida‖, a Biologia faz surgir o vivo n?o como conceito, un?voco e abstrato, mas como categoria flex?vel, de classifica??o cujos limites t?m possibilidade de amplia??o desse campo discursivo e das suas rela??es quanto mais, se conhe?am formas de vida, os vivos e suas singularidades. ? esse o movimento que faz uma ci?ncia como a Biologia n?o se esgotar e que garante a perpetua??o de um discurso sobre a vida, dotado de certa plasticidade que acaba por garantir sua constante acomoda??o no espa?o entre os limites pr?-fixados dos crit?rios artificiais de classifica??o.
