In current society prevails the need to reflect on the family-school relationship, since these institutions comply with important role in the formation of the child and that this relationship necessarily preclude of harmony and corresponsabilidades, for interfere considerably in learning outcomes. Thus, this research aims at, on accountability determined by article 205 of the 1988 Federal Constitution and by article 2 of the law of 1996 guidelines and Bases, analyze the conceptions that families have about participation in the school life of their children. It was developed a descriptive exploratory research. The approach to the problem was qualitatively. The instruments used for data collection were two questionnaires that aimed to identify socio-demographic aspects of the parents and the concepts that they have about participation in the school life of their children. The data collected have been catalogued on tables and treated by analysis of content of Bardin (2011). The results indicate that there is participation of parents in school and in monitoring their childrens school and that they occur in different levels, determined by the professional occupation of the parents and the school built in monitoring design process of socialization. Before the results, has the challenge of enhancing the relationship of school with his family, from the perspective of parents about their participation in the school life of their children. / Na sociedade atual prevalece a necessidade de se refletir sobre a relação família-escola, uma vez que essas instituições cumprem papel importante na formação da criança e que essa relação prescinde de harmonia e corresponsabilidades, por interferir consideravelmente nos resultados da aprendizagem. Assim, esta pesquisa tem por objetivo, diante da responsabilização determinada pelo artigo 205 da Constituição Federal de 1988 e pelo artigo 2 da Lei de Diretrizes e Bases 1996, analisar as concepções que as famílias têm sobre a participação na vida escolar dos filhos. Foi desenvolvida uma pesquisa exploratória descritiva. A abordagem do problema se deu de forma qualitativa. Os instrumentos utilizados para a coleta de dados foram dois questionários que visaram à identificação de aspectos sociodemográficos dos pais e aos conceitos que estes têm sobre a participação na vida escolar dos filhos. Os dados coletados foram catalogados em tabelas e tratados pela análise de conteúdo de Bardin (2011). Os resultados apontam que há participação dos pais na escola e no acompanhamento escolar dos filhos e que estes ocorrem em níveis distintos, determinados pela ocupação profissional dos pais e pela concepção de acompanhamento escolar construída no processo de socialização. Diante dos resultados apresentados, tem-se o desafio de potencializar a relação da escola com a família, a partir da perspectiva dos pais sobre sua participação na vida escolar dos filhos.
