A tese tem como objetivo central analisar a produção de significados que as crianças constroem quando pensam as suas infâncias, principalmente atravessadas pelos processos culturais que configuram suas vidas na periferia urbana. A partir do desenvolvimento da pesquisa foram realizadas reflexões e análises, subsidiadas principalmente pela sociologia configuracional de Norbert Elias, sobre os processos culturais como formas, através das quais se produzem as relações que configuram as infâncias de crianças de periferia urbana, assumindo como pressuposto que as relações estabelecidas pelas crianças entre si e com os adultos, assim como os significados que conferem às diferentes práticas sociais, constituem elementos de estudos sociológicos que contribuem para a área da educação. A investigação adota uma abordagem configuracional, onde os dados empíricos foram buscados, em um centro educativo infantil, localizado no interior de um conjunto habitacional, na periferia urbana da cidade de Porto Alegre, principalmente, através de entrevistas e observações com crianças de quatro a seis anos. A pesquisa envolve basicamente as categorias infância, configurações sociais, educação, processos culturais e periferia urbana, sendo a cultura apresentada como uma categoria de análise importante para o aprofundamento e compreensão dos processos civilizadores que envolvem a infância. A afirmação de Norbert Elias de que não existem atitudes naturais do homem, sendo elas assimiladas através da educação social, é aprofundada a partir dos dados empíricos. A sociologia configuracional do sociólogo contribui para a construção do conceito de configurações das infâncias. Esse conceito expressa que as crianças estão nas teias configuracionais da sociedade e que, a partir desta concepção, não é possível falar em inserção social da criança, mas de relações e ações estabelecidas com as crianças, para as crianças e entre as crianças, na rede de relações, atravessadas pelas culturas e formadas pelos poderes e tensões, constituindo elos de interdependências sociais. São apresentadas análises sobre (a) os significados e entrelaçamentos de processos culturais e civilizadores que envolvem e constituem as infâncias no mundo urbano, especificamente na periferia, (b) os processos culturais presentes nas configurações das infâncias, através da produção de significados que se processam no interior das teias de interdependências, das quais as crianças participam e que configuram suas infâncias, caracterizando as culturas infantis. O trabalho pretende contribuir, para a área da educação, tornando mais presente perspectivas teóricas que aprofundam os estudos sobre as infâncias, tendo como referência as relações sociais processuais e a centralidade dos processos culturais. / The thesis has as central objective analyze the production of meanings that the children construct when think in its childhood, mainly crossed by the cultural processes that configures its lives in the urban periphery. From the development of the research were realized reflections and analyses, subsidized mainly from the configurational sociology of Norbert Elias, on the cultural processes as forms, through which they produce the relations that configure the childhood of the children in the urban periphery, assuming as estimated that the relations established for the children between itself and with the adults, as well as the meanings whom they confer to different social practice, they constitute elements of sociological studies that contribute for the area of the education. The inquiry adopts a configurational boarding, where the empirical data had been searched, in an infantile educative center, located in the interior of a housing set, in the urban periphery of the city of Porto Alegre, mainly, through interviews and observations with children between four to six years. The research involves the basically the categories childhood, social configurations, education, cultural processes and urban periphery, being the presented culture as a category of important analysis for the deepening and understanding of the civilizing processes that involves childhood. The Norbert Elias affirmation that the natural attitudes of the man does not exist, being assimilated through the social education, is deepened from the empirical data. The configurational sociology of the sociologist contributes for the construction of the concept of configurations of the childhood. This concept expresses that the children are in the configurational webs of the society and that, from this conception, is not possible to mention social insertion of the child, but of relations and actions established with the children, for the children and between the children, in the net of relations, crossed for the cultures and formed by the powers and tensions, constituting links of social interdependences. Are presented the analysis about (a) the meanings and interlacements of cultural and civilizing processes that involves and constitute the childhood in the urban world, specifically in the periphery, (b) the cultural processes in the configurations of the childhood, through the production of meanings that process in the interior of the webs of interdependencies, of which the children participate and that they configure its childhood, characterizing the infantile cultures. The assignment intends to contribute, for the area of the education, making more present the theoretical perspectives that deepen the studies about the childhood, having as reference the processual social relations and the centralizing of the cultural processes.
