Previous issue date: 2008 / This research problematizes the way in which the public services deal with sexual diversity. To achieve such goal we decided to develop our research on the Brazilian Social Assistance Policy (SUAS). Therefore, we aim on contributing to the analysis of its current implementation, as the right to free sexual orientation is part of the right to social equality. Respect for sexual diversity is an important step towards the achievement of autonomy and democracy, as well as to the overcoming of the degradation of the other. The results found may enlarge the visibility of the themes here discussed, denaturalizing the norm of heterosexuality, which is opposed to the fight for a world where sexual diversity is truly recognized. This is fundamental to the realization of the political project proposed by the Social Work, which is committed to the fight against discrimination and violation of rights. / A discussão deste trabalho centra-se em problematizar a forma como os serviços públicos lidam com a diversidade sexual. O lócus escolhido para o desenvolvimento da pesquisa foi a política de Assistência Social e visa, portanto, poder contribuir para a análise dos processos necessários à implantação do SUAS (Sistema Único de Assistência Social), na medida em que o direito a liberdade de orientação sexual se constitui numa forma de direito a igualdade social. Respeitar a diversidade sexual é necessário para o respeito a autonomia, para a democracia, para a superação da inferiorização do outro. O resultado amplia a visibilidade aos temas sobre os quais nos debruçamos, desnaturalizando a imposição da heteronormatividade, oposta a luta dos patamares de sociabilidade onde a diversidade seja efetivamente reconhecida. Isto é fundamental para dar materialidade ao projeto político do Serviço Social que, entre os seus princípios, contrapõe a quaisquer formas de discriminação e compromete-se com a luta pela superação da violação de direitos.
