Para tanto, procedemos a um estudo do conceito de epônimo e das formas linguísticas, isto é, da estrutura morfossintática e léxico-semântica dos termos eponímicos. Observamos o gênero dos epônimos contidos nesses termos e sua classificação em antropônimo ou topônimo. Discutimos também a questão da opacidade, que é constantemente mencionada quando se trata de termos eponímicos e realizamos uma investigação sobre o uso desse tipo de unidade terminológica em comunicação escrita e oral. Como referencial teórico para as discussões sobre termos eponímicos, baseamo-nos nos trabalhos de J. de Aguiar Pupo (1973), Francisco Eduardo Rabello (1974), Idel Becker (1977), Joffre Rezende (1998; 2001), Geraldo José Medeiros Fernandes (1999), Liberato J. A. Di Dio (2000), Vânia Belintani Piatto et al (2000), Henri Van Hoof (1999; 2001) e José Antonio Díaz Rojo (2001). Nossa constatação inicial era a de que a eponímia parecia ser vista pela Medicina como um todo como uma ameaça à precisão e à clareza da terminologia médica e, por isso, os termos criados com base em nomes próprios deveriam ser excluídos da linguagem médica. Entretanto, apesar das orientações e sugestões da Medicina, verificamos que esse fenômeno ocorria em obras científicas escritas da área da Dermatologia. Assim, nossa hipótese era a de que, em comunicação oral, esse uso de termos eponímicos também se verificasse. Realizamos, então, uma pesquisa de campo com grupos de informantes que representam a categoria médica, a saber, médicos docentes, médicos não docentes e alunos de cursos de Medicina. In order to do that, we have realized a study on the concept of eponym and on the linguistic forms, that is, the morpho-syntactic and lexical-semantic structures of eponymic terms. We have observed the gender of the eponyms inside these terms and their classification into anthroponym or toponym. We have also discussed the issue of opacity which is constantly mentioned when eponymic terms are concerned and carried out an investigation about the use of this type of terminological unit in written and oral communication. Our initial impression, based on the literature about medical language, was that the eponymy seemed to be considered a threat to the medical terminology clarity and precision by all branches, and due to that fact, terms based on proper names should be excluded. However, despite all suggestions and orientations given by Medicine, we verified that this phenomenon occurred in scientific works of Dermatology. Thus, our hypothesis was that this use of eponymic terms was also verified in oral communication. We have then conducted a fieldwork with groups of informants who represent the medical category. These informants are doctors (physicians or surgeons), professor doctors and students who are attending a Medicine course.
