Materiais e Métodos: 180 ratos machos foram distribuídos em 6 grupos (n=30). Em todos os animais a PE foi induzida nos primeiros molares inferiores, direto (D) e esquerdo (E). SS/ST: animais receberam solução salina 0,9% (SS) intraperitoneal (IP), sem tratamento (ST); SS/RAR/SS: animais receberam SS IP, e após 7 dias da indução da PE, os animais foram submetidos à raspagem e alisamento radicular (RAR) seguido da irrigação subgengival com 1 ml de SS; SS/RAR/AS: animais receberam SS IP, e após 7 dias da indução da PE, os animais foram submetidos à RAR seguido da irrigação subgengival com 1 ml de AS (10-5M); 5-FU/ST: animais receberam 5-FU IP, ST; 5-FU/RAR/SS: animais receberam 5-FU IP e, após 7 dias da indução da PE, os animais foram submetidos à RAR seguido da irrigação subgengival com 1 ml de SS; 5-FU/RAR/AS: animais receberam 5-FU IP, e após 7 dias da indução da PE, os animais foram submetidos à RAR seguido da irrigação subgengival com 1 ml de AS. O quimioterápico foi administrado com intervalo de 48 horas, aplicando-se 60 mg/kg e 40 mg/kg, respectivamente. As eutanásias ocorreram aos 14, 22 e 37 dias após indução da PE. (Resumo completo, clicar acesso eletrônico abaixo) / Abstract: Background: The purpose of the present research is to evaluate the influence of adjuvant therapy with topical sodium alendronate (SA) for the mechanical treatment of experimental periodontitis (EP), induced in rats subjected to chemotherapy with 5-fluorouracil (5-FU). Methods: 180 hundred male rats were divided into 6 groups (n=30). EP was induced in both left (L) and right (R) first mandibular molars of all animals. SS/NT: received saline solution 0.9% intraperitoneally (IP), and no treatment was performed (NT); SS/SRP/SS: received SS IP, and were submitted to scaling and root planning (SRP) and subgingival irrigation with 1ml SS 7 days after induction of EP; SS/SRP/SA: received SS IP, and were submitted to SRP and subgingival irrigation with 1ml SA (10-5M) 7 days after induction of EP; 5-FU/ST: received 5-FU IP, NT was performed; 5-FU/SRP/SS: received 5-FU IP, and were submitted to SRP and subgingival irrigation with 1ml SS 7 days after induction of EP; 5-FU/SRP/AS: received 5-FU IP, and were submitted to SRP and subgingival irrigation with 1ml AS 7 days after induction of EP. The antineoplastic was delivered IP with 48 h time interval, 60 mg/kg and 40 mg/kg respectively. The euthanasia were performed at 14, 22 and 37 days after induction of EP.
