Detta arbete avser redogöra om och hur kommuner och kommunala bolag använder sig av mobila GIS-appar i det dagliga arbetet. Det ska även ge en allmän beskrivning av hur teknologin fungerar och hur marknaden ser ut. Som det är just nu ökar användningen av smarta mobiler, så kallade "smartphones", hos allmänheten och även företag har börjat köpa in smartphones till kontoren. Även försäljningen av surfplattor har ökat och förväntas öka ännu mer de närmaste åren. Detta medför att marknaden för applikationer har ökat avsevärt. När det gäller användandet av mobila GIS-appar inom kommuner och kommunala bolag verkar marknaden just nu vara ganska liten men intresset ökar. Av de som svarat på vår enkät svarade en majoritet att de skulle kunna tänka sig att använda mobila GIS-appar och att de var intresserade av att utveckla egna applikationer specialiserade för deras behov. Teknologin utvecklas väldigt snabbt just nu och nya modeller av både smartphones och surfplattor kommer ständigt ut på marknaden. Modellerna blir tåligare och kraftfullare men än så länge är det en bit kvar innan de kommer ikapp den ruggade PC:n när det gäller funktionalitet. Just nu är det inte många av de kommuner och kommunala bolag som svarat på enkäten som använder mobila GIS-appar ofta i sitt dagliga arbete. Detta verkar bero på att informationen om vilka applikationer som finns och hur man använder dem inte når ut till organisationerna. Rädslan för att enheterna som applikationerna används på inte ska klara av fältarbete är också en av anledningarna till att andra metoder väljs. Vad vi kommit fram till efter sammanställningen av enkäten och de två telefonintervjuer som gjorts är att kommunerna och deras kommunala bolag är intresserade av mobila GIS-appar och vill kunna ta till sig tekniken men vet inte hur det ska gå till än. / The intention of this work is to describe whether and how municipalities and municipal companies make use of mobile GIS-apps in their daily work. It will also give a general description of how the technology works and what the market looks like. Right now the use of Smartphones is increasing with the public and even companies have started buying smartphones to their offices. The sale of Tablets has also increased and is expected to increase even more in the next few years. This means that the market for applications have increased considerably. The use of mobile GIS-apps by municipalities and municipal companies seems to be rather small right now but the interest is growing all the time. Of those who responded to our questionnaire the majority said that they would be willing to use mobile GIS-apps and that they were interested in developing their own applications specialized for their needs. The technology is developing very rapidly right now and new models of both smartphones and tablets are constantly on the market. The models are more durable and more powerful but as yet there is some way to go before they catch up with the rugged PC in terms of functionality. Right now not many of the municipalities and municipal companies that have answered our questionnaire are using mobile GIS-apps often in their daily work. This appears to be because the information about what applications are available and how to use them do not reach out to the organizations. The fear that the devices that the applications are used on will not be good enough for fieldwork is also one of the reasons why other methods are chosen. What we have found after compiling the questionnaire and conducted two telephone interviews is that municipalities and municipal corporations are interested in mobile GIS-apps and want to embrace the technology but do not yet know how.
