Operationsteametserfarenheter av hypotermi underden perioperativa vården / The operating theatre teams’ experiences of hypothermia duringperioperative care : An interview study

Introduction: Hypothermia emerges under surgery when the patient is exposed against thecold and is anesthetic treatment, where their is not functioning properly. Complications canarise due to hypothermia, in worst case scenario the patient dies. It is important för alloperating theatre professions to know the preventive methods and how to remedyhypothermia. Aim: The aim of the study is to describe what experiences the operatingtheathre team have about hypothermia during the perioperative care. Method: Qualitativeinterview study with inductive approach. A total of 16 operating theatre personnel ofdifferent professions were interviewed. The interviews were analyzed with qualitativecontent analysis. Result: The result is built up using two main categoires, hypothermia is aproblem and to successful prevent hypothermia. Of these main categories, six subcategorieswere designed. Conclusion: The fact that hypothermia still occurred at the surgery wasseen as a problem and suffering for the patients. Adherence to guidelines regardinghypothermia was essential to avoid patients being affected. There was disagreement aboutcertain preventive measures. Possessing knowledge and experience was successful inpreventing hypothermia, while a lack of knowledge and experience contributed to increasedrisks of patients being affected.
