Arbetet hanterar uppgiften att rita en tillbyggnad till Nationalmuseum. Byggnaden ska enligt uppgiften inhysa arbetsplatser för museets personal, förvaring av konst i magasin, konserveringsateljéer, utrymmen för att hantera in- och utlastning av konst samt en semipublik studiesal. Uppgiften har hanterats utifrån antagandet att logistiken, arbetsplatsen och byggnadens plats i stadsrummet är de tre huvudfrågorna. Den sistnämnda har hanterats med Beaux Arts traditionen som inspiration i det att tillbyggnaden står i direkt relation till museets struktur och volym, men avviker från denna i det att byggnaden inte förlänger strukturen, utan är en omarbetning av den, vilket resulterar i ett annat stadsrum, mer av ett stadsrum än en förlängning av museet. Frågan om arbetsplatsen har hanterats så att arbetsplatsen får uppta stor del av byggnadsvolymen, ljusa luftiga rum med möjlighet till kontakt med medarbetarna parat med mindre ytor för spontana möten understött av en planstruktur som uppmanar till detta ska möjliggöra en bra arbetsplats. Programmet delar in hanteringen av konst och kontorsdelarna i programmet i två delar som sedan placeras ut i byggnaden efter kriterierna solljus, närhet till kommunikationer med museet, och relation till det omgivande parkrummet. / The thesis project is a response to a given assignment with a given program, that of designing an extension to the National Museum of Sweden containing offices for the employees of the museum, ateliers for restoring art, a magazine to store art, a semi-public study space and a series of spaces managing the in- and outflow of art to the museum. The thesis is that the fundamental questions posed by the assignment are three: that of logistics, that of creating a good workspace, and that of the relation between the built extension and the museum and the surrounding cityscape. The attempt at answering the latter question was to align the extension with the northwest façade of the museum, extending it in an north eastern direction, and thus to align it with the beaux arts tradition of extending buildings. However, the extensions deviates from the tradition by taking on a shape independent of the museum, thus seeking to fulfil the intention of creating more active spaces surrounding it I the city. The workplace is design to allow for casual meetings between workers, whilst at the same time creating an atmosphere akin to that of the original building; the logistics of the program are given by the relations of the part to the process of storing and maintaining, and by the relations to the in and out loading and to the museum.
