När museipersonalen talar om de funktioner som ska finnas i den nya tillbyggnaden ser de dessa som centrala för Nationalmuseum. För att låta byggnaden stå i fokus istället för att kvävas i skuggan av det monumentala muséet har jag därför valt att i mitt kandidatprojekt röra mig utanför muséeparken och istället placera tillbyggnaden på vattnet mot Skeppsholmen. Grundtanken i projektet är att den flexibilitet som efterfrågas i programbeskrivningen även ska speglas på byggnadens utsida. Byggnaden ska när den nyttjas kunna transformeras från en väldigt sluten och enkel form till en mer komplicerad och öppen. Kommunikationen med Nationalmuseum sker av säkerhetsskäl endast under vissa tidpunkter under dygnet. De landgångar som finns i tillbyggnaden expanderar då ut och ansluter till muséet. På plan två har jag valt att placera byggnadens publika funktioner, en studiesal och en hörsal. Tanken är att hörsalen då landgången är utfälld även ska kunna användas som utställningshall.För att få in naturligt ljus i byggnaden ligger det i dess centrum ett stort atrium. Här finns de motorer som får byggnaden att fungera samt det klimatsystem som behövs för att bevara dess konst. I detta atrium sker även byggnadens vertikala kommunikation. / When the staff at the National Museum Of Fine Arts talks about the new building and what functions it is supposed to contain they see them as central to the museum. To let the building be a focal point instead of letting it suffocate in the shadow of the monumental National Museum I choose to place it on the water facing Skeppsholmen instead of in the park. The basic idea of the project is that the flexibility that is asked for in the description of the program also should be reflected on the outside of the building. The building should when it is used be able to transform from a very simple and closed form to a more complicated and open.The communication with the National Museum only occurs during specific times during the day. The gangways that exist within the building then expand out and connect to the main building. I have chosen to put the buildings public functions, the study hall and the auditorium on level two. The thought is that when the gangway is extended the auditorium also should be able to be used as an exhibition hall.To get natural sunlight into the building there is placed a large atrium in its center. Here the engines that makes the building function and the climate system that is needed to preserve its art is placed. In this atrium the vertical communication of the building also takes place.
