I spänningsfältet : En kvalitativ studie om socialsekreterarnas förhållningssätt gentemot föräldrar i samband med familjehemsplaceringar

The purpose of the study is how social workers relate to the biological parents in connection with the placement of children in foster homes. The study was conducted using a combination method where a focus group interview and five individual interviews with social workers in child and youth section completed. Based on the purpose and questions how social workers describe their role, dilemmas and strategies in the work with parents of children placed, I consider the most obvious roles is the organizer of relationships, listeners and mediators. The result shows that the contact to the biological parents require a flexible approach depending on the situation and how the relationship with current parents look like. Local circumstances and personal characteristics creates opportunities and challenges, thus forming the basis for how they relate to the clients. Social workers carry a duality because they represent a bureaucratic organization while investigations and the assessment of individual officials. Each municipality must structure their organization to the prevailing conditions in the municipality. This creates opportunities and challenges in the relationship between the social worker and the clients.
