"Jag vill jättegärna läsa mer när jag egentligen är jättetrött och ska sluta" : En studie om barns utsagor om känslor vid läsning / ”I really want to read more when I’m actually tired and ought to stop” : A study of children’s statements about feelings when reading

This study examines what motivates pupils to read a particular text and seeks to arrive at a greater understanding of how pupils are motivated to read. The studied material consists of interviews with pupils in grade 4 who talk about a book they liked and say why the book appealed to them. Theories of reading propounded by Burke, Langer and Csíkszentmihályi are applied using a hermeneutic method. The results showed that the most important factor motivating pupils to read a book is whether it contains some kind of suspense. The study therefore focuses on the concept of suspense and the different forms of suspense mentioned by the pupils. The emotions expressed by the pupils are also linked to different theories of positive reading experiences and being in a state of flow.
