As the structure of society is increasingly digitized, the requirement for IT to work perfectly increases. IT plays a fundamental prerequisite for our lives, companies can with IT provide competitive advantages to secure their position on the market. Digitization is a contributing factor in launching new IT-projects on a regular basis to meet tomorrow's technological paradigm shift or to develop existing systems. At the same time as a relatively large number of IT-projects fail, which in return causes consequences for the involved stakeholders. The basis of the empirical study has been to conduct a qualitative survey on how four project managers relate to risk management. The empirical study will be validated against the theoretical framework. The theoretical framework describes how risk management is used as a tool and how the risk management process relates to the different phases of the projects. An overall theme has also been to explain the difficulties that arise in IT-projects with different approaches. From the empirical theory and theoretical framework, a comparative analysis has been carried out that underpins the reasons for how the workflow with risk management is implemented in practice and the difficulties that arise for project managers. Based on this, the study has gained a deeper overview based on the various reasons that have given incentives for how these occurrences have influenced risk management. The study has led to a concrete conclusion that concerns both internal and external factors regarding the risk management work and the difficulties that have ascended. The study concludes, among other things, that risk management is prioritized in favour of other actions in IT-projects and that knowledge transfer from previous IT-projects is something that is overlooked.
