Tystnad råder - EN STUDIE OM VILKEN ROLL SYNREHABILITERING I SKÅNE SPELAR FÖR ATT STÄRKA BLINDAS FÖRMÅGA ATT FLIRTA OCH SKAPA INTIMA RELATIONER

Silence rulesA study of the role visual rehabilitation in Skåne plays to support the ability to flirt and create intimate relationships amongst blind people.by Monica GranbergThe purpose of the study is to shed light upon the rehabilitation situation for blind people within Region Skåne, regarding how compensatory techniques and strategies for responding to and sending flirting signals, and initiating love and/or sexual relationships are practised. Also if, and if so how, rehabilitators construct a particular social type, “the blind”, and the effect this construction has on how these issues are approached is looked upon. The method used to examine these issues is qualitative semi-structured interviews with seven informants from different educational backgrounds but all with direct client contacts. The study shows that some of the informants have worked with the issues, in group activities and/or during courses, but no such skill training is planned nor performed today. Some of the informants do discuss the issues but only if the clients themselves bring them up during individual meetings. There is no single constructed social type, “the blind”; rather the pictures are formed from personal experiences either from client meetings or, when applicable, from being visibly impaired. Several of the informants’ pictures of “the blind” are coloured by many clients being elderly; thus the issues are considered less relevant, and harder to bring up.Keywords: flirt, rehabilitation, relationship, visually impaired
