Utveckling av en miljövänlig kontorsstol / Development of an environmentally friendly office chair

In Sweden, the production of office furniture contributes to approximately 150,000 tonnes of CO_2 equivalentsannually. In addition, about 330,000 tonnes of furniture from public sectors and companies are thrown away every year. This work is about the development of an environmentally friendly, recyclable and sustainable office chair, where the maximum capacity for a person is 110 kg. The purpose of the work is to reduce the global environmental impact, by creating an environmentally friendly office chair with the help of K. Ulrich and S. Eppinger product development process, CAD modeling, static calculations and strength calculations and strength selection and study of material selection. Unlike existing products, the chair is specified to be environmentally friendly in its entirety. In addition, extensive searches are made online about what materials are around the world, due to the discovery of new and special materials such as Piñatex. The work follows Ulrich and S. Eppinger's product development process, which was a large part of the development of the environmentally friendly office chair. Pugh's selection matrix helped to score different concepts in order to get the best concept for further development. After a concept has been selected, a CAD model was built from it. Thereafter, material selection is made for the chair's parts through information searches via the web and with the support of the selection matrix. Static calculations are made to calculate the forces and torque of the backrest, seat, and armrest. In addition, strength calculation is performed to calculate deflection, buckling and tension on the legs. By following the methods, an office chair was developed that can minimize the environmental impact.
