Uttryck och attityder till elevdemokrati ur ett elev- och lärarperspektiv. / Expression and attitudes for student democracy from a student-and teacher perspective.

The purpose of this systematic review is to compile earlier research regarding student democracy and the different attitudes to it from student- and teacher perspectives. The world we live in is in a constant state of change and even though the world changes, we can’t forget the democratic values that society relies on. This work aims to help my future colleagues in the Swedish school environment to better understand, develop and work with democratic values. So that democracy can live on. My goal has been to find research that touches on the area from several perspectives. To achieve my purpose, the following questions were formulated: What are the different expressions of student democracy?  Do students have knowledge of what democracy and student democracy are? In what way do students and teachers see democracy? The survey method has been information retrieval in various databases that resulted in both national and international research. Most of the research shows that there are several benefits with student democracy, one of the benefits is that pupils with higher understanding or knowledge of what student democracy is, are more likely to engage in his or her work in school. The research also showed that it is clear that it is a relevant topic and important for our future profession and that the expression student democracy has different meaning for a teacher and a student. The results of this work shows that younger pupils have the opportunity to influence certain things in the school context, but that it differs between the different school subjects. It also shows that student council is an important aspect, even if it is not primary.
