Background: Palliative care is care provided to patients whose diseases can no longer be cured. It aims to improve patients' quality of life by alleviating pain, addressing their other needs and offering support to relatives. Therefore, it is important for nurses to have a holistic view when caring for patients and to have a deep understanding in this area. Aim: To describe nurses’ experiences in palliative care. Method: A general literature review was conducted. Eleven qualitative and two quantitative articles were analysed. Selected articles were found through CINAHL Plus and PubMed. Results: Based on the aim, method and results of the thirteen articles, similarities and differences were identified. Three themes regarding nurses' experiences in palliative care emerged from the findings: the significance of good communication, lack of knowledge and the importance of maintaining a good relationship with patients and relatives. Conclusion: Nurses' experiences in palliative care emphasized the importance of communication and relationships in meeting patients' needs and improving their quality of life. Nevertheless, they faced challenges in communication and in establishing good relationships with patients. Nurses called for continuous education to improve their competence in the field.
