Multiprofessional teams is a common way of organizing the work in rehabilitation medicine clinics. Team members are usually physicians, physiotherapists, occupational therapists, counselors and nurses where the counselor is the only one from the psycho- social discipline. Team care interventions are provided from a holistic perspective in which the patient's physical, psychological and social rehabilitation is taken into consideration. The meetings between the professional team and patient have the main purpose to increase patient participation. The aim of the study is to observe and analyze communication between the professionals, the patient and their relatives during team meetings. The purpose is specified into two questions; “how is the word divided between the participants?” and “which area of knowledge is dominant?”. Another focal point is how and to what extent the social work is noticeable. The study has a qualitative approach and is based on four video observations. The analyze is based on communicational- and role theory. The results shows that the strong medical context characterize the meetings and focus of the meeting is on the physical aspects of rehabilitation. The counselor and the social work has a relatively small presence compared to other professions. Further implication is that the team professionals use a variety of communication techniques to increase patient participation.
