Projektstyrning av IT-projekt : En jämförelse av projektstyrningen av två IT-projekt / IT- Project management : a comparison of the project management of two IT-projects

Course: Master's Thesis in Business Administration Purpose: The purpose with this paper is to give an insight, and to compare, the project management of two IT-projects – one which product was implemented and put into use, and one, which was implemented but no longer exists on the market. Furthermore also examine the critical success factors that influence the success respectively the failure of the IT-projects. Method: To attain the purpose with our study we have chosen a qualitative method. We have carried out interviews with two of the project managers of the IT-project of the two large companies. Result: A couple of problems occurred within the IT-projects of the large companies. Difficulties concerning cooperation, lacking leadership, unclear demand specifications were some of the problems that complicated the project work. Some of these problems can be related to the fact that the success of the project was, for the most part, determined by whether it would be completed within a certain time period, which had a negative impact on the quality. Both projects had problems with the factors that are viewed to be critical for the success of a project. The study shows that factors that influenced both projects to a large extent can be related to the categories communication, competence and other factors that can be related to the resources of the projects.
