Säkerheten på en byggarbetsplats : Förhåller sig Skanska och dess underentreprenörer olika till arbetsmiljösäkerhet?

Approximately ten people die every year at building sites in Sweden. Every year TheWork Environment Authority (Arbetsmiljöverket) receives 3200 accident reportsfrom the construction sector. The Swedish building contractor Skanska has the vision:“Zero accidents”. Only at Skanska Sweden, where this diploma work is preformed,350-520 accidents and mishaps are reported every year for the last 5 years. 150-200of these led to absence every year. This diploma work thesis in construction engineering aims to assist Skanska Sweden inthe work towards its vision. It is primary based on a field study at four differentbuilding sites where a questionnaire was distributed to Skanska`s constructionworkers and subcontractors working on the site. The purpose of this thesis is toanalyze where Skanska Sweden should focus its safety work to minimize accidents atthe working sites. In newspapers and the building and construction unions magazine it is often pointedout that subcontractors are more exposed and more often involved in work relatedaccidents and injuries than the main contractor. The conclusion of this thesis is that Skanska Sweden’s own workers are more oftenexposed to accidents resulting in absence than their subcontractors, even though thesubcontractor’s workers more often choose not to use prescribed safety equipment. We have also concluded that observations and mishaps about safety are not reportedas often as it should.
