En plats för interkulturell pedagogisk kompetens i samhällskunskapsdidaktik

This study aims to explore course literature in civic didactics and analyze which aspects of intercultural pedagogical competence are defined in the course material as well as how it could be implemented in civic education. The analysis deconstructs the term 'intercultural pedagogical competence' into two critical understandings: interculturalism and multiculturalism. The study demonstrates both the similarities and critical disparities between interculturalism and multiculturalism, in an attempt to further the understanding of intercultural pedagogical competence. To examine the study objective, the method conducted was qualitative text analysis. The material consisted of six separate publications related to civic didactics chosen from the syllabi of two Swedish university programs for upper-secondary school teachers. Based on a review of the course literature, the results suggest that various aspects related to intercultural pedagogical competence were included in the literature, while not in all of the publications examined. Furthermore, it is suggested by the course literature that intercultural pedagogical competence can be implemented in civic education through critical thinking, democratic education, or by associating the educational content to the students' own experiences.
