[pt] Por meio de pequenos relatos produzidos por João do Rio no início do século
XX, cuja ambientação ou o horizonte é a noite, o presente trabalho investiga histórias
de insubmissão à nova ordem que se instala frente às benesses da Modernidade, a
perfazerem o espaço citadino através de traços simbólicos peculiares, mostrando-o
como lugar de resistência e como campo propício para produção de sentidos, ainda
que fragmentados ou paradoxais. Os traços incongruentes e insubmissos analisados
pelo autor dizem respeito, fundamentalmente, às questões que envolvem as mudanças
de percepção do homem, o gesto erótico e o crime no seio da urbe moderna, cujo
paradigma é o Rio de Janeiro do Bota-abaixo de Pereira Passos. Para tanto, as
pesquisas de George Bataille acerca do erotismo são de importância teórica
fundamental para este estudo, que pretende sugerir que a cidade moderna, e talvez as
da pós-modernidade, ainda pode produzir tantos outros espaços e corpos tendenciosos
a uma lógica diferente, insubmissa ao gesto panóptico que a planeja e regula, capaz
de gerar sentidos que suplementem aqueles que sucumbiram ao apagamento da antiga
cidade à luz da razão que dispõe o novo traçado arquitetônico e a nova dinâmica
afetiva e de corpos, propondo, assim e ainda, outros espaços, outros personagens,
outros sentidos, e novas histórias. / [en] Delving into a series of short stories written by João do Rio in the early 20th
century, the present work scrutinizes unsubmission accounts that face an order that
has been set up by the favors of Modernity. Such accounts - set either in a nocturnal
environment or purview -, scan the urban space by means of peculiar symbolic traits,
evidencing this environment as a place of resistance and a locus for the production of
meaning, however fragmented or paradoxical it may be. The incongruent and
unsubmissive traits analyzed by the author refer, primarily, to questions that surround
human perception, erotic gesture and crime within the modern urbes, here epitomized
by Rio de Janeiro during the renovation times under the Pereira Passos’s mayorship.
To accomplish this, the research of George Bataille is of utmost theoretical
importance. This study intends to suggest that the modern city - and perhaps the postmodern
ones - is able to produce so many other spaces and bodies leaning towards a
different rationale, non-submissive to the panoptical gesture that plans and regulates,
and also to generate meanings to those that have yielded to the effacing of the old
city, under the light of reason that determines a new architectural frame and a new
dynamics in terms of bodies and emotions, thereby proposing other spaces, other
characters, other meanings and new stories.
