A escola tem mostrado que o processo de ensino e aprendizagem formalmente constituído parece não responder adequadamente às novas exigências da sociedade contemporânea. No entanto, a arte sempre foi uma janela para a humanização, tanto no aprendizado quanto na construção da visão de mundo com olhar mais humano. Neste sentido, o teatro é uma das grandes janelas para este objetivo, acima citado. Esta Dissertação traz a experiência do Projeto que culminou com a implantação do Prêmio Cultura de Teatro Escolar, na cidade de Suzano (SP), tendo a Diretoria de Ensino de Suzano como a grande alavanca da proposta. A pesquisa apresenta a fundamentação teórica do processo e sua motivação, bem como o histórico da trajetória do Prêmio Cultura, juntamente com os resultados da pesquisa com os participantes, entre os anos de 2001 e 2006. A pesquisa revela que, especialmente para os alunos, o Projeto foi de extrema relevância para a compreensão da construção de uma peça teatral e seus meandros, bem como as dificuldades nela encontradas. De outro lado, mostra o grande potencial do ponto de vista da sociabilidade do processo, no que tange às relações humanas e sociais, e para os diretores, o ganho substancial no encontro e na articulação do Projeto como um todo. A pesquisa revela que o teatro oferece condições de desenvolvimento intelectual, corporal, sensitivo para aquém e além dos processos de ensino e aprendizagem encontrados na escola e, por conseguinte, a experiência da montagem do espetáculo traz ganhos importantes para o desempenho posterior dos alunos no ambiente escolar. / The school experience has been showing that the formal learning process does not appropriately meet the needs of the contemporary society. Nevertheless, Arts have been considered an open window for humanization, not only in relation to the learning process, but also in terms of the construction of a more humanistic perception of the world. For this reason, Theater is one of the greatest windows to reach the goal mentioned above. This paper brings the experience of the Project which ended with the implementation of Prêmio Cultura de Teatro Escolar (School Theater Prize), in the city of Suzano (SP), with the Suzano Teaching Direction as its main support. The research presents the theory basis of the Project and the reasons which motivated its development. Also, it describes the history of School Theater Prize, together with the results of the survey conducted with the participants, from 2001 to 2006. The research shows that, particularly for the students, the Project was extremely important as it brought a better understanding of how a play is organized, considering all the aspects and difficulties related to it. On the other hand, it reveals the great potential of the Theater in terms of socialization, considering human and social features. Also it explains how the Project provided the educators, who were play directors, an opportunity of development since they managed the activities as a whole. Last but not least, the research shows that the Theater offers conditions for the intellectual, body and sensitive development beyond the learning process inside classrooms. Therefore, the experience of creating a play brings important results which will have a positive impact on the students performance at school.
