A study of Allancroft, a children’s institution.

Chan, May. N., Greenblatt, Gerald., McDonald, Louise., Shulman, Froma., Thompson, Dorothy., Wyllie, Anna. January 1957 (has links)
Allancroft, a small institution which is part of the Children's Service Centre, was opened in 1953 and has been in continuous operation since that time. The institution was a new resource for the agency and the first three years have been a period of experiment. From the vantage point of these three years' experience, it was considered desirable to analyze in some detail the use made of the institution by the C.S.C. in order to determine its value.

Adefrissew, Demissie., Cooperberg, Arlene., Driedger, Florence., Driedger, Otto., Ferguson, Janet., Gerima, Yohannes. W., Sims, Valerie., Weinstein, Herbert., Zukerman, Harold. January 1958 (has links)
This study is an enquiry into the manner of living of a group of non-institutionalized old people residing in an urban setting. The present introductory chapter is divided into three sections. Section A is a general orientation to the present study. Section B considers the theoretical background to the current trends of research in the field of old age. In Section C, the scope and method of the present study will be described. In recent years an increasing attention has been directed to the phenomenon of an ageing population and to the implications which this has for the individual and for society. This trend has derived from a combination of factors, some of which will be briefly indicated here.

A study of the psychological factors and factors in the current life situation that influence the plan the unmarried mother makes for her baby.

Daniels, Phyllis. D. January 1960 (has links)
This thesis examines certain psychological factors in the background of the unmarried mother and reality factors in her current life situation to determine how these factors influence the plan she makes for her out-of-wedlock child. The study is based on the examination of 20 unmarried mothers, who were known to the social service department of a large obstetrical hospital in Montreal in 1956-67. The data were obtained by the writer, with the use of a schedule during personal interviews with the unmarried mother. In this study it was shown that neither social nor psychological factors in themselves determined the plan for the baby. It was found that the plan the unmarried mother selected relationship of for her baby was determined by the interrelationship of these two factors.

A study of the board members’ concept of the “good citizen”.

Marsden, Barbara. January 1961 (has links)
The present study was undertaken in order to examine the opinions and attitudes which Board Members of Recreation Agencies have of “good citizenship”. A study of the recreation agency and “good citizenship” seems relevant at the present time for a number of reasons. Recreation agencies have, for many years, considered the development of good citizenship as one of their major goals in working with their membership. Most agencies include a statement in their constitutions to the effect that one of the aims of the agency is to promote good citizenship.

A study of the unmarried mother who keeps her child.

Furlong, Eleanor. January 1954 (has links)
During the past few decades, there have been a number of articles and several research projects undertaken on the different phases of unmarried motherhood and illegitimate children. There appears, however, to be a noticeable lack of attention, both in research projects and written material, to the unmarried mother who keeps her child rather than release him for adoption placement. The written material refers briefly to the social and psychological problems that face both the mother and the child while dealing with other phases of unmarried motherhood.

Social adjustment of schizophrenic patients after hospitalization.

Meszaros, Elizabeth. S. January 1956 (has links)
This is a study of the social adjustment of schizophrenic patients in an eighteen-month period following treatment and separation from a mental hospital. Comparisons will be made between social adjustment after hospitalization, and estimated social adjustment in the period preceding the illness. Some interest will be focused on the development or standardized research instruments which will assess various types of social adjustment. The family environment from which this diagnostic population originated, and to which they will return, is also a subject of interest and a subject of study in this thesis.

Dade-Morkpli, Timothy.

Anastassiadis, Constantine. P., Dade-Morkpli, Timothy., Risk, Jacob. January 1956 (has links)
Note: Missing page 327. / Late in 1954, the research adviser for this thesis (Dr. Kirk) wrote a paper dealing with adolescence. He indicates that while adolescence has come to mean irresponsibility and a stage of uncertainty in modern Western society, this phenomenon does not necessarily appear in other times and cultures. He says: “We have suggested that the problem which appears as irresponsibility to the grown-up world, the adolescent feels as uncertainty concerning himself. This uncertainty appears to be reinforced by the conflict in adult values concerning, at least, the economic sphere.”

Factors affecting the rehabilitation of tuberculous patients.

Endler, Mildred. January 1953 (has links)
Within recent years the whole concept of illness and treatment has undergone radical revision and emerged with a shift in emphasis and a broadening of its base. It had been accepted practice to concentrate on the diseased organ which was treated as an entity existing independently of the patient. Gradually, however, came the recognition that the emotional and social together with the physical features of illness enter into the disease process and should be considered together in order to restore the individual to full health.
