Kniha Jonáš, kapitola 2. Exegeze, teologie a interpretace starozákonní perikopy / The Book of Jonah, Chapter 2. Exegesis, Theology and Interpretation of an Old Testament Pericope

Hrouda, Vojtěch January 2006 (has links)
In the presented work we have dealt mainly with the second chapter of the Old Testament book of Jonah, whose dominant part is Jonah's psalm of thanks. We tried to find arguments for their own hypotheses and then soberly formulate conclusions. We have tried in this way to bridge the gap between analytical exegesis of the Hebrew text and a synthetic actual applications. Powered by TCPDF (www.tcpdf.org)

Kidron Road and Other Stories

Molohon, Jason 01 January 2016 (has links)
Kidron Road and Other Stories is a collection of fiction that ranges from the soberly tragic to the magically real. The characters in each selection are molded by their choices, the choices of others, and the cruel whims of fate. I am fascinated by the way fatalism and free will intersect in the human experience. Therefore, my work often explores the paradoxical way lives are molded by past decisions while, at the same time, those decisions seem determined by outside forces.

Pre-emption against terror : just war pacifist approach

Sem, Daniel Oduro 20 September 2004
Having soberly reflected upon the tragedy of September 11, 2001, the author observed that though international law and treaties restrict pre-emptive war, they do allow for war in self-defense. Consequently, some powerful nations have used this as a justification for launching pre-emptive strikes. The threats posed by the powerful nations using self-defense as a justification for pre-emptive strikes and the inability of weaker nations to do the same, greatly account for the unprecedented explosion of global terrorism. The author thinks that confronting terrorism therefore requires a pro-pacifist ethical framework whose principles have to be applied with international law to narrow the legitimacy of self-defense wars. Hence, he proposes "Moral Consistency" as a required condition for launching pre-emptive strikes with two main aims - to reduce violent conflicts and to draw a substantial distinction between reason and justification, and between crime and criminal justice.

"Standing at the Very Edge of the Infinite”: Beauty, Transcendence and the Modern Kalliphobic Rebellion

Corbin, Ian Marcus January 2019 (has links)
Thesis advisor: Jeffrey Bloechl / This dissertation examines the relationship between the experience of beauty and intuitions of transcendence. The first two chapters explore the role that natural beauty plays in humans’ existential ruminations, finding an intimate connection between beauty and belief in transcendent realities. The final three chapters examine the post-WWII turn away from beauty in fine art, and argue that this turn is intimately connected with a broader turn away from transcendent horizons in the wake of the second World War, e.g. that seen in Rawlsian Liberalism. Finally, an argument is developed that a culture without transcendence and beauty is unlikely to thrive in the long run, and so the postwar turn against same should be carefully, soberly abandoned. / Thesis (PhD) — Boston College, 2019. / Submitted to: Boston College. Subject of the thesis is the architecture study of multifunctional architectural object based on the principle of creating intensive urban structures. Design area is located on the riverside Svitava, in the neighborhood the street Zvonařka . The aim of the project was to design an intensive structure that will meet the combination of features in order to achieve independence from the surrounding area and shorten the walking distance. The proposal itself, the principle of porosity. This generates a set of objects fulfilling different functions, public, semi-public and private spaces - atrium terraces, green roofs and balconies. The building has nine floors above ground and two underground floors used for parking. A Study of the White Falcon Paintings in Qianlong Court / 乾隆宮廷白鷹圖研究

Yu-chi Yu, 余玉琦 January 2012 (has links)
碩士 / 國立臺灣大學 / 藝術史研究所 / 100 / This study focuses on the 17 pieces of white falcon paintings made in Qianlong court. Firstly, based on the preliminary research this study further confirms and supplements to new eagle painting themes of China “Jia Shang Ying (the falcon is tied to a falcon stand with cord),” discussing how Emperor Qianlong consciously adjusted the tradition of Chinese Falcon Paintings, structured particular intention of the court Falcon Paintings for responding to cultural shocks and being suitable for Manchurian Qing. Then, by reviewing these Falcon Paintings and other Flower-and-Bird Painting of Qing court soberly, this study explains how the Western painting style was applied to court paintings of Emperor Qianlong with condition as the classics of Chinese painting. Different from the discourse of representation affected by west realistic painting, this study tentatively puts forward some suggestions and another approach about the development of Chinese Flower-and-Bird Painting and try to make a breakthrough of previous comments on the inevitable decline of arts in Qing court.

Potravní ekologie netopýrů Středozemí / Feeding ecology of bats in the eastern Mediterranean

Žďárská, Lenka January 2013 (has links)
This work gives an overview of the composition of the diet of bats in the eastern Mediterranean and the Middle East, discusses the structure of bat communities in different bioregions of the area in terms of hunting strategies and resource partitioning and last but not least, how echolocation and morphological characteristics of bats affect the composition of the diet. Although some samples were relatively small therefore it is necessary to look soberly at their informative value, and thus their importance is undeniable. The study in some cases provides completely the first information regarding the composition of diet in several species. Asellia arabica mainly catches Coleoptera (Scarabaeidae), Triaenops persicus hunts Lepidoptera, but Heteroptera, Coleoptera (Scarabaeidae) and Orthoptera too, while Triaenops parvus is a specialist in hunting Lepidoptera. Rhinopoma muscatellum hunts mainly Formicoidea, followed by Coleoptera (Melolonthinae) and Heteroptera, Rhinopoma hadramauticum hunts Formicoidea. Lepidoptera of different size, Heteroptera and Coleoptera are the prey of Chaerephon nigeriae. Pipistrellus hanaki has a wide niche breadth as other species of the genus Pipistrellus. In this study Brachycera, Auchenorrhyncha and Coleoptera primarily occurred in its diet. Not yet described species of...

Blockchain-based Peer-to-Peer Energy Trade

Johanning, Simon, Bruckner, Thomas 19 October 2023 (has links)
Motivated by numerous drivers, blockchain-based peer-to-peer energy trade whitepapers surged in the past two years. Assuming disruption through blockchain technology, they envisioned a transformation of energy systems through technosocio- economic solutions. Few impartial and sober assessments of blockchain-based energy projects exist, and many publications praise disruptive potential without further examination. A more distant and critical perspective, however, is imperative for a responsible use of a novel, in particular disruptive, technology. This review aims at surveying the energy system envisioned by the projects through discussing the projects by their characteristics, their perspective on the transactive energy lifecycle and the energy ecosystem envisioned in the white papers. This review is descriptive and comparative in nature, and attempts to synthesize topics raised in the white papers through methods of grounded theory, as well as assessing the disruptive potential of blockchain technology in energy systems. Through this and a critical and neutral perspective, it strives to (soberly) contribute to a discussion on the digitization of elements of the energy system, and how blockchain-based use cases can contribute constructively to the problems at hand.
