Organ Music Before J. S. Bach: An Anthology with Pedagogical and Historical RationaleKim, Hyejung 07 1900 (has links)
The purpose of this dissertation is to compile an anthology of organ literature that serves as both a repertoire and study guide for each included piece, suitable for any undergraduate organ literature class. This dissertation will present the pedagogical and historical justifications for the selected repertoire and offer a detailed rationale for the project. Understanding the rich traditions in organ literature is challenging without a fundamental knowledge of the history of organ music. Music score anthologies are essential in undergraduate music studies. However, at present, there is a notable absence of anthologies specifically designed for organ literature classes. This anthology seeks to fill this void by providing students with straightforward access to diverse musical works, complemented by detailed background information and supplementary resources. To ensure complete accessibility, all musical examples are presented with newly edited full scores.

Ko Matsushita's suite: Anthology of LoveHuang, Hsiao-Yin 25 July 2006 (has links)
Multiculturalism is one of the major trends in the choral education of the Twenty-first Century. Choral conductors attempt to capture diverse repertories from around the world. Japan, a country not very distant from Taiwan, is full of splendid choral development and composing achievements. Ko Matsushita is a Japanese choral conductor, composer, and educator. He is the conductor of ten choirs that have won many international choral competitions in the last decade. He also won the Carl Orff Composer Award two times. Matsushita was awarded the honor of the Robert Edler Prize in 2005 for his outstanding work in promoting choral music.
Anthology of Love is a suite for female chorus with piano accompaniment. It was premiered in October 2003, and was published by KAWAI in August 2004. This suite contains four pieces: Somewhere or Other, Malayan Love Songs, A Poem for April, and Last Song of a Poet. These songs trace four different stages of love in human life: innocent, attractive, matured, and heroic love. All the Japanese lyrics in this work are taken from Shuntaro Tanikawa¡¦s poem collections. The piano accompaniment can play an important part in the music but requires a performer with advanced technique to deliver that result.
This thesis consists of five chapters. Chapter One is the Introduction. Chapter Two discusses the background of Matsushita: Part One is a biographic sketch of Matsushita¡¦s life; Part Two introduces the musical style and characteristics of Matsushita¡¦s female choral works. Chapter Three focuses on the origin of lyrics and analysis of these four pieces. Chapter Four supplies rehearsal techniques and teaching suggestions for conductors. The diction fundamentals of Japanese and pronunciation of the lyrics are also included in this chapter. Chapter Five is the Conclusion. There are three appendices at the end of this thesis. Appendix A supplies four letters from Matsushita. Appendix B is a list of Matsushita¡¦s published choral works. Appendix C contains the translation and the Romanization of the Japanese lyrics for these four pieces.

To present master’s degree dissertation proposes to analyze the anthology As cem melhores crônicas brasileiras, organized by Joaquim Ferreira dos Santos. Taking into account that this anthology is a short of History of Literature, it is also understood as a source of important reference in relation to the historiography of this particular gender and, therefore, a legitimate way of studying literature. In order to form this analyses, it is relevant to highlight the close relationship among Journalism Literature and Society; This shall demonstrate there is a meaning not only concerning the “literary” but also the "social” ambit, so as to allow studies about the genre, departing from the formation and transformation as feasible ways for its evolution in Brazil. Considering a specific corpus- based analysis and using a guided typology, it is proposed to examine the peculiar form of approach of chronicle to the “frontier gender”, which is a genre characteristic given its hybrid constitution. The accomplishment of this work precedes the organizer’s analysis and comprehension of data which are meaningful and is some ways, composes the organizer’s thoughts towards the organization of this anthology.

Americana. Americký mýtus v italské meziválečné literatuře / Americana. American myth in the Italian interwar literatureKalinová, Alžběta January 2011 (has links)
This thesis called "Americana. American Myth in the Italian Interwar Literature" describes and analyses the anthology of American literature Americana that was prepared in 1940 by Italian writer and translator Elio Vittorini. It also focuses on the impact of fascist rhetoric and ideology on Italian interwar literature and official approach of fascist Italy to the USA. The initial part describes life and work of Elio Vittorini, mentioning also the influences that inspired him in his work and his motivations to compile the whole anthology. The next chapter of this part briefly presents other translators who contributed to Americana. The middle part of the thesis describes formation of the fascist regime in Italy and its impact on the Italian culture, focusing mainly on journalism and literature. It describes not only the creation of censorship itself but also paradoxes that went together. In the end of this part we can read about the struggle of Elio Vittorini and Bompiani Publishing House to publish Americana. The core of this thesis, however, is an analysis of both versions of Americana, the original version of Elio Vittorini as well as the censored version with the foreword by Emilio Cecchi. The beginning of this part outlines the birth of the American myth in Italian literature itself and then the...

Abreu e Lima, o escritor público: estudo e antologia / Abreu e Lima, the public writer: study and anthologyOliveira, Tatiane Maria Barbosa de 05 October 2018 (has links)
This M. Phil dissertation talks about José Ignácio de Abreu e Lima (1794-1869) as a man of letters in the 19th century, who, besides being General of Simón Bolívar (1767-1830), had distinguished contribution in the nascent Brazilian literary historiography, with essays that had denoted historical synthesis and declarations of purpose for the institution of literature for the country. As a main objective, we intend to organize the first anthology about Abreu e Lima writings, aiming to elucidate him from his role as a public writer, which includes trying to fit him into the categories of publicists and orators and historiography and literary criticism, from the study of his complete texts or parts of his selected works of its vast production. As a specific objective we proposed to evaluate how, from his writings, the author Abreu e Lima developed his subjects and contents in three levels: the autobiographical look, the look at the other, and the look that is configured in the literature of a nation. This anthological essay presents an introductory essay, in which we approach Abreu e Lima as a public writer, then critically present the selected texts and their transcriptions. In addition, we will also offer a section with a bibliographical survey of the works published by Abreu e Lima and their reissues.

O \'literato ambulante\': antologia e estudo da obra de Sylvio Floreal (1918-1928) / The walking literate: anthology and study of the work of Sylvio Floreal (1918-1928)Ferreira, Rafael Rodrigo 22 February 2018 (has links)
The present work aims to relativize the dynamics encompassing the selective system of canonization of Brazilian literature by the means of disseminating a collection of texts of the writer Sylvio Floreal, who, unassociated with the current literary manuals, dialogues directly with a period that naturally blended apparent mismatched discourses styles, which corresponded in the political periodization known as First Republic (1889-1930). Thus, the anthology will feature a compilation of prosaic texts (short stories and chronicles) produced by the author in a time span of 10 years, Attitudes (1992), Midnight Patrol (1925), Tragic Brazil (1928), as well as non-published scattered texts in books, found only in periodicals of the time, accompanied by an introductory analytical study capable of panoramically unveiling its literary progress (route/course) and its relations with the prevailing intellectual scene. It is understood that from a critical observation in detriment of a literary prescription, which usually accounts well-drawn discourses and therefore insufficient discourses, it is possible to disclose pertinent aspects of the Brazilian literature during modernity.
