Gastown eco-studio: manifestations of body in interior design and eco-fashionBroojerdiazar, Valeh 12 September 2015 (has links)
The fashion industry has a complex and often ambiguous relationship with the environment. Fast fashion has led to increased waste and harmful production methods, but innovative textile developments have led to more environmentally-friendly clothing production. In the recent decades, eco-fashion has become an evolutionary model that focuses on environmental concerns and an eco-driven consciousness. This Master of Interior Design practicum project proposes a hypothetical eco-fashion design studio in Gastown, Vancouver in order to showcase the conclusive relationship between interior design and eco-fashion. This project employs important conceptions like the body and identity in the design of Gastown Eco-Studio. These themes inform the design process, and the theoretical and methodological considerations demonstrate that the body, as an inhabitant of the built environment can provide a conceptual model for interior design and the related concept of identity can be illustrated through the process of eco-consciousness. / October 2015

The relationship between identity development and body imageKamps, Cristi L. 01 January 2008 (has links)
Previous research suggests a link between identity status (i.e., identity exploration and identity commitment) and body image, evaluation (e.g., body satisfaction) and investment (e.g., the psychological importance one places on one's appearance). The identity statuses include diffused (neither exploration, nor commitment), foreclosed (commitment without exploration), moratorium (exploration, but no commitment), and achieved (exploration and commitment to an identity). While research demonstrates that an association exists between body image, specifically weight preoccupation, and identity development, variations in the adjustment within the identity statuses suggest that other factors may affect this relationship. One such factor is identity distress. The intended purpose of this study is to replicate the findings of Herzog (1997) who found that women in the identity statuses which have not yet committed to an identity (diffused and moratorium) had a significantly higher degree of weight preoccupation than those in the identity statuses who had made identity commitments. The present study also sought to explore whether this same relationship holds for men. It was further hypothesized that women would have less satisfaction with their bodies than men would. A sample of 53 college students with a mean age of26.45 years (S.D. = 7.36 years) completed questionnaires pertaining to identity status, identity distress, and body image. A one-way analysis of variance showed a significant difference between identity status groups on overweight preoccupation with the most preoccupied being those in the moratorium identity status, followed by achievement, diffused, and then foreclosed. However, Scheffe Post Hoc analyses indicated that the only significant difference between groups was between moratoriums and foreclosed (the two extremes). Likewise, males had a significantly higher evaluation of their appearance than women did, confirming the second hypothesis. When looking at the subscales of identity exploration and identity commitment, commitment positively correlated with appearance orientation. Exploration positively correlated with fitness orientation. The average identity distress rating positively correlated to overweight preoccupation, and negatively correlated to appearance evaluation and body areas satisfaction. In regards to a DSM-IV diagnosis for identity problem, 18.9% of the sample qualified. Scores for those who met for identity problem diagnosis were significantly lower in health orientation and body areas satisfaction. The main hypothesis of this paper was that identity variables would be a significant predictor of body image. To test this hypothesis, several multiple regression analyses were calculated with the demographic variables of sex and age entered in the first step, identity status entered in the second step, and average identity distress rating entered on the third step, with each of the body image subscale scores as the dependent variable. Results indicated that the overall model was significant for appearance evaluation, fitness orientation, body areas satisfaction, and overweight preoccupation. Implications of these findings are discussed.

Návrh designu vozu Mitsuoka Kit Car / Mitsuoka Kit Car DesignKratochvíl, Jaroslav January 2011 (has links)
A dissertation deals with small single-placed car body design (so-called microcar cathegory). The new design is based on the undercart and the engine of serial Mitsuoka Kit Car. Therefore the aim belongs to re-design tasks. Analytical part of the dissertation deals with two basic questions influencing the final draft. The Corporate identity at first and a problematic of the target group level of aesthetical perception linked to preferred design. On grounds of analysis the core values for new design have been set down. The particular values have been presented with the help of existing reference objects from the field of automotive design. This part also includes a questionnairy, which had been focused on prefered design conception. Due to low microcars topic awareness in Czech Republic, the questionnairy had informational character and the final design conception has been chosen on the base of functional aspects analysis. The final design development, shown on sketches and basic software renderings, is based on gradual steps that lead to the core values expression with regards to input parameters and basic design rules as well. The final design is introduced together with description of its technical solution and detailed design. The solution respects the mentioned target group and the institution Corporate Identity.

[pt] TIM MAIA: O ANTI-HERÓI DA MÚSICA BRASILEIRA / [en] TIM MAIA: THE ANTI HERO OF THE BRAZILIAN MUSIC16 September 2021 (has links)
[pt] Esse trabalho pretende ser essencialmente antropológico, mas, não é possível ignorar os aspectos sociológicos, políticos e até filosóficos da constituição/invenção do nosso povo para, a partir daí, analisar o
comportamento social do personagem Tim Maia. Refere se à construção do personagem Tim Maia compondo uma análise póstuma cujo intuito não é desvendar quem ele era ou buscar a verdade a seu respeito. A base biográfica apenas anuncia o conteúdo principal. / [en] This work intends to be essentially anthropological, but you can not ignore the sociological, political and even philosophical aspects of the formation/invention of our people, and from there, to analyse the social
behaviour of the character of Tim Maia. The work refers to the construction of the character of Tim Maia composing a posthumous analysis of whose purpose is not to unravel who he was or seek the truth about him. The biographical base is just the preview to the main content. That is an analysis of his character, of the myth around it, its deviations from the sociological point of view and questions of identity that formed it. This analysis goes through discourse, issues relating to literature and even ethnographical authority. So finally, these are affirmations that do not seek, I reiterate, the truth about Tim Maia, but from a theoretical point of view to launch a scholarly look about him that would explain how he saw his own truths.

"SPECCHIO, SPECCHIO DELLE MIE BRAME..." LA PERCEZIONE E RAPPRESENTAZIONE DELL'IMMAGINE CORPOREA NELL'ACQUISIZIONE DELL'IDENTITA' IN ADOLESCENZA. UN'ANALISI SULLE TRAIETTORIE DI SVILUPPO TIPICHE E ATIPICHE / "Mirror, Mirror on the Wall " Body Image Perception and Representation in the Identity Development in Adolescence. Analysis of Typical and Atypical DevelopmentGATTI, ELENA 10 March 2008 (has links)
In adolescence, pubertal maturation is an important event in developmental process, marking the transition from childhood to adulthood. These changes involve a psychological recognition and a new organization of identity. This work is articulated in three experimental studies. The first translates and validates two instruments: Body Esteem Scale (Mendelson, Mendelson, White, 2001) and “Mi disegno” originally created by Whitkin et al. (1962). Second study investigate the roles of gender and age in body perceptions, body representations and self esteem in a Italian adolescents sample who ranged in age from 11 to 17 years old. Participants completed five self report questionnaires and the “Drawing Me Test”. Third study explore the same variables in two groups of clinical patients. Results show that the gender and the age influence the body image perception and predict the self esteem. Comparing the clinical group and control group, the gender and pubertal status perceived modify body perceptions and representation of anorexic and obesity patients.

An Anatomy of the Soul In English Renaissance Religious Poetry / An Anatomy of the SoulPope, Johnathan 09 1900 (has links)

This dissertation examines the centrality of the soul-body relationship to the construction of identity in English Renaissance religious poetry. The expanding field of 'body criticism' has greatly increased our understanding of the early modern body, but critics have rarely considered how Christianity influenced the ways the early moderns thought about their bodies and their embodied souls at a time when the science of anatomy flourished in Europe. Consequently, our current perception of the early modern subject is skewed. This dissertation addresses this critical gap by exploring the persistence of Christian narratives in discussions of both the body and the soul throughout the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries. The first two chapters address two interrelated question: how did early modern anatomists understand the soul, and how did early modern religious writers understand the body? This dissertation begins by examining the religious perspectives that are evident in English anatomical writing and then moves on to explore the presence of anatomical perspectives in English religious writing on the soul in order to discuss the intimate relationship between corporeality and spirituality. The final two chapters focus on the devotional poetry of An Collins and the devotional emblems of Francis Quarles in order to demonstrate the integration of a Christianized sense of corporeality into meditations on religious subjectivity. Both writers draw on the issues discussed in the first two chapters but represent corporeality differently. On the one hand, Collins transforms physical suffering into a sign of her salvation. On the other hand, Quarles expresses anxiety over the world's ability to infect the soul through the body. In both cases, the relationship between body and soul is a central concern, and their representation of that relationship is indebted to a Christianized sense of embodiment.
/ Thesis / Doctor of Philosophy (PhD)
