Methods for calibration of the vibration measurement system EVME used on the JAS 39 Gripen engine.Backlund, Ludvig, Martin, Anna, Svantesson, Gustaf January 2014 (has links)
This project investigates methods for calibrating and functional testing an Engine Vibration Measurement Equipment. The equipment uses accelerometers to measure vibrations on the JAS 39 Gripen aircraft engine to ensure that the engine is correctly installed. A model for emulating the electronic signals generated by the accelerometers was created in Simulink and different ways for utilizing the model as a part of a complete test system were examined. Upon examination of different calibration methods it was found that a complete test system needs to have the ability to both send electrical signals directly into the EVME as well as a way of testing the accelerometers mechanically. Both short- and long-term solutions fulfilling these requirements were prepared.

Calibrating Intuition: A Defense of Standard Philosophical AnalysisJalea, Justin 11 1900 (has links)
Intuition has fallen from grace. Its authority to act as a source of evidence in philosophical discourse has recently been called into question by philosophers and cognitive psychologists alike, who claim that because of the many difficulties that plague intuition, it should not hold the evidential role it does presently. This is exceedingly troubling, since appeals to intuition are pervasive throughout, and infiltrate every level of, philosophical discourse. This paper explores the extent of intuitions infiltration in philosophy and whether intuition is warranted in those positions. I argue that by focusing on virtues exhibited by philosophical methodology, many of the arguments made against them are defused. In spite of this, we can largely carry on utilizing the methodology which houses intuitions Standard Philosophical Analysis while continually attempting to revise and refine that methodology.

Standard and sample manipulation for calibration in flame atomic absorption spectrometryBysouth, Stephen R. January 1988 (has links)
This thesis describes a study of existing calibration methods and a comparison of them, with novel calibration and sample pre-treatment methods for flame atomic absorption spectrometry (FAAS) developed by the author. A comparison of commercially available curve fitting algorithms was carried out to show how concentration errors arise and vary, due to the use of different empirical models for the calibration curve. Novel online dilution manifolds were designed. Using flow injection and continuous flow techniques, different calibration procedures were developed to allow null methods of calibration to be used and to extend the calibration range. Methods of sample pre-treatment were developed, including online dissolution and species separation, using flow injection analysis techniques. Members of the atomic spectroscopy group of the Royal Society of Chemistry were surveyed to discover calibration practices used in commercial laboratories. Respondents were asked questions on sample type, treatment and presentation, and data reduction for calibration. During the research, several papers were published and lectures given on the topics described.
