Omni SCADA intrusion detection

Gao, Jun 11 May 2020 (has links)
We investigate deep learning based omni intrusion detection system (IDS) for supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA) networks that are capable of detecting both temporally uncorrelated and correlated attacks. Regarding the IDSs developed in this paper, a feedforward neural network (FNN) can detect temporally uncorrelated attacks at an F1 of 99.967±0.005% but correlated attacks as low as 58±2%. In contrast, long-short term memory (LSTM) detects correlated attacks at 99.56±0.01% while uncorrelated attacks at 99.3±0.1%. Combining LSTM and FNN through an ensemble approach further improves the IDS performance with F1 of 99.68±0.04% regardless the temporal correlations among the data packets. / Graduate

Punishment of house arrest, its execution and control Abstract This thesis deals with the punishment of house arrest. It describes the legal regulation of this punishment, further evaluates the practice and draws attention to the shortcomings. The thesis first defines the Czech system of punishments imposed for criminal offenses and describes the position of the punishment of house arrest in this system and its relationship to other punishments. The thesis further analyzes the substantive legislation of the punishment of house arrest in the Criminal Code, explains the ambiguities in the regulation and tries to recommend changes that could benefit this regulation. Moreover, the thesis deals with the legal regulation of the conversion of a punishment of house arrest sentence into a custodial sentence, which occurs when the execution of the punishment of house arrest sentence is violated. In addition, it deals with the legal regulation of the conversion of other punishments into the punishment of house arrest, draws attention to its shortcomings and proposes changes. In addition to the substantive legislation, the work also describes the execution of punishment of house arrest and all related cases where the punishment of house arrest cannot be executed. Furthermore, in this work, two ways of control of the...

The SAP Link: A Controller Architecture for Secure Industrial Control Systems

Wyman, Matthew Cody 01 February 2019 (has links)
Industrial Control Systems are essential to modern life. They are utilized in hundreds of processes including power distribution, water treatment, manufacturing, traffic management, and amusement park ride control. These systems are an essential part of modern life and if compromised, could result in significant economic loss, safety impacts, damage to the environment, and even loss of life. Unfortunately, many of these systems are not properly secured from a cyber attack. It is likely that a well-funded and motivated attack from a nation-state will successfully compromise an industrial control system's network. As cyber war becomes more prevalent, it is becoming more critical to find new and innovative ways to reduce the physical impacts from a cyber attack. This thesis presents a new architecture for a secure industrial controller. This architecture protects the integrity of the controller logic, including the safety logic which is responsible for keeping the process in a safe condition. In particular, it would prevent malicious or accidental modification or bypassing of the controller logic. This architecture divides the controller into three components; the logic controller, the interface controller and the SAP link. The logic controller is responsible for controlling the equipment and contains the safety logic. The interface controller communicates with the rest of the control system network. The Simple As Possible (SAP) link is a bridge between the logic and interface controllers that ensures the integrity of the logic controller by drastically limiting the external interface of the logic controller. We implement this new architecture on a physical controller to demonstrate the process of implementing the architecture and to demonstrate its feasibility.

Trest domácího vězení, jeho výkon a kontrola / House arrest, its execution and control

Procházková, Aneta January 2019 (has links)
House arrest, its execution and control This thesis focuses on the punishment of house arrest and its position as an alternative punishment. Its aim is to provide a comprehensive view of this institute in a broader context, to reveal its advantages and disadvantages and to evaluate its development so far. Given one of the functions of house arrest as a substitute for imprisonment in particular, the work goes in this direction and evaluates this aspect from several possible perspectives. The assessment is then based on a comparison of the theoretical assumptions and results of the practice, which offers a comparison of the actual use of punishment and its likely development in the coming years, including de lege ferenda. The first part of the thesis is conceived as a general introduction which aims to introduce the concept of punishment, including its purpose, meaning and function. The following section than narrows the broad subject of punishment to alternative punishments, among which house arrest is included. One subchapter is also devoted to the concept of restorative justice as the cornerstone of alternative sanctioning. The second part of the thesis deals with the main topic and analyzes all the requirements of the house arrest. These chapters describe its development, meaning, purpose and...

Remote Residential Control System

Lang, Ming-Shuang January 2004 (has links)
A remote residential control system enables home users to remotely manage devices at their homes. These devices may include energy management, security surveillance, household appliances, consumer electronics, etc. This system involves technologies in home automation, home networking, and interfacing a home network with external networks. However, lacking a single standard poses a big challenge to the design of such a system. This thesis proposed three methods of turning an IP Set-Top Box into a remote residential control platform. Additionally, future trends are discussed. Various technologies in the fields mentioned above are also examined.

DESIGN OF HYDRAULIC CONTROL SYSTEMS FOR CONSTRUCTION VEHICLES BASED ON ENERGY EFFICIENCY AND HUMAN FACTORS

Riccardo Madau (12476457) 28 April 2022 (has links)
<p>Most of the heavy-duty machines, in particular construction vehicles, employ hydraulically actuated functions that are used to perform multiple tasks with elevated power requirements. Such high-power demand motivates the Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs) to minimize the costs associated with energy consumption through the design of such hydraulic systems. The human-machine interaction (human factors) and the efficiency of the hydraulic control system are considered key elements towards a successful design. The interaction between the operator and the machine considerably affects the performance of construction machines. In order to maintain high levels of productivity, the operators require comfort and effortless controllability of the multiple hydraulic functions. The comfort requirement can include limited shocks and oscillations while operating the machines (while driving and controlling the implement motion), cabin accessories (AC, radio, cameras, etc.) and accessibility to the instrumentation. Besides, the operators have to control multiple functions simultaneously in an efficient manner while maintaining high levels of productivity. Consequently, the operators require smooth controllability of such functions. Such demand can largely affect the efficiency of the expected hydraulic control system and can induce additional costs and complexity. The OEMs are therefore forced to find a balance between efficiency and operators’ requirements to be competitive on the market. As a result, the currently adopted hydraulic architectures rely on purely hydraulic components to ensure robustness and functionality of the hydraulic functions at the expenses of limited performance and high-power consumption. In this dissertation, electro-hydraulic components are employed to induce improvements of the commercially available solutions while still complying with the operators’ demands and energy efficiency. To this end, this work tackles the weaknesses of traditional hydraulic architectures and it proposes alternative solutions to overcome their limitations. Two full-size wheel loaders are used to study the behavior of the existing system and later to implement the proposed variations. First, the development of an innovative ride control feature to improve the operators’ comfort is presented. Experimental results show the proposed strategy having better comfort performances compared to the purely hydraulic solution. Besides, the electro-hydraulic alternative does not demand the costly additional components the commercial solution instead requires. Second, this work faces the concern for efficiency of the present hydraulic architecture. The most diffused hydraulic system for the studied category of construction machines, commonly known as Load Sensing (LS), is sized to work most efficiently for elevated power conditions. During this work, an electronically controlled hydraulic supply unit and a flow-sharing method are used to reduce the hydraulic power consumption in the regions where the traditional LS system is less efficient. With a simple and cost-effective modification, the presented control strategy can induce an efficiency improvement over a wide range of operating conditions. Third, this dissertation proposes an operator-assistance feature to potentially increase the overall productivity and reduce the operator’s stress. An online estimation algorithm was developed to predict the payload weight of the transported material inside the bucket and the pushing forces during a typical loading cycle. The calculated payload mass provides an estimate of the user’s productivity level and it is extremely advantageous when the loaded material should reach a certain target weight. The developed estimation algorithm can also support an optimized autonomous excavation process, which can progressively limit the operator-machine interaction.</p>

Learning Git Through Serious Educational Game

Hamadeh, Awni January 2020 (has links)
Git is a distributed version control system that tracks changes to a project overtime and is used to save these changes. Today it is being used by millions of people and is becoming a demand on the job market. For this reason it has become important to learn the version control system. Learning Git however may be difficult for beginners and learning it through tutorials may not always be effective. Learning it through a serious educational game (SEG) may be more effective as a SEG can provide motivation and feedback which are two factors for successful learning. This study seeks to assess how effective a SEG is in teaching Git by looking at the amount of knowledge gained from playing a SEG. This study also seeks to assess how much participants learned Git using a tutorial compared to participants who used a serious educational game. From the results, the study found that the SEG expanded the understanding of Git. The study also found that there was no significant difference in the amount of understanding gained from the SEG and the tutorial.

Security of Vehicular Platooning

Dadras, Soodeh 01 May 2019 (has links)
Platooning concept involves a group of vehicles acting as a single unit through coordination of movements. While Platooning as an evolving trend in mobility and transportation diminishes the individual and manual driving concerns, it creates new risks. New technologies and passenger’s safety and security further complicate matters and make platooning attractive target for the malicious minds. To improve the security of the vehicular platooning, threats and their potential impacts on vehicular platooning should be identified to protect the system against security risks. Furthermore, algorithms should be proposed to detect intrusions and mitigate the effects in case of attack. This dissertation introduces a new vulnerability in vehicular platooning from the control systems perspective and presents the detection and mitigation algorithms to protect vehicles and passengers in the event of the attack.
