THREE PERSPECTIVES ON FINANCIAL LITERACY

MIGLIAVACCA, MILENA 24 May 2017 (has links)
This thesis aims at investigating the financial literacy through three different perspectives by analysing the data gathered from an ad-hoc survey carried out in Italy between September 2014 and February 2015. The first chapter looks at the determinants of financial literacy, focusing on the role of financial advisors, the second one takes a psychological perspective on the issue and the last chapter looks at poor financial literacy as a possible antecedent for financial behavioural biases. Traditional educational interventions aimed at improving financial awareness proved to be extremely costly and to have a worryingly short decay period worldwide; the empirical findings presented in this thesis suggest that a more gradual and constant form of financial education, such as the one exerted by independent financial advisors, would be more effective. Being aware of the relational channels that enhance the independent financial advisors’ educational role, may help to orient and better target future educational treatments, bearing in mind, though, that the theoretical financial proficiency does not ensure unbiased downstream behaviours. As a matter of fact, according to the results, financial literacy decreases the presence of cognitive biases, but does not have a significant effect on emotional biases.

Analýza právní úpravy lichvy / Analysis of usury legislation

Červenková, Tereza January 2016 (has links)
The project analyzes current legislation on usury in the Czech Republic and the financial literacy of the adult population. On 1 Dec. 2016, an amended Act on Consumer Loans entered into force and this project examines it. The project compares Czech legislation on usury with selected European Union countries. Czech legislation is similar with German and Portugal legislation, especially in terms of civil law. The most effective legislation can be considered in Spain, which explicitly stipulates allowed interest rate limits. Based on that, Czech legislation on usury should be adjusted. The research results show a correlation between respondents' highest-achieved level of education and their financial literacy levels. The research also finds that the number of court distraints (property seizures) and the willingness to borrow money is lower among respondents with university-level education than for respondents with secondary and basic school education. When comparing our findings with research by STEM/MARK dating from 2010, it is clear that the financial literacy of the adult population in the Czech Republic has not changed significantly since that time.

Regulace finančního poradenství v České republice / Regulation of Financial Advisory in the Czech Republic

Klofáč, Michal January 2013 (has links)
Consulting one's personal finance with a financial advisor should allow even the less financially educated to optimize their financial portfolio. The client-advisor relationship is however a strong case of information asymmetry, which can result in harm being made to the client by the advisor, either knowingly (when the advisor attempts to maximize their own utility, even at the client's cost) or unknowingly (e.g. when the advisor is inadequately qualified in the field). One of the ways to reduce such risks is a proper regulatory framework, which is the core subject of the thesis. At first, the thesis analyzes the current state of financial advisory in the Czech Republic (how it is performed, what part of the population benefits from it, what the main problems are etc.) and shows how the client-advisor interaction ought to be performed. The main part of the thesis describes what the main problems and risks for the client are and which legal measures exist that can reduce these negative effects. The current legal framework in the Czech Republic is then thoroughly analyzed and compared with best-practice of select EU states. Finally, legal measures which are currently being discussed or passed as laws are mentioned. In the very end, other measures which could help make the field of financial advisory in the Czech Republic more efficient are suggested. The aim of the thesis is to provide a compact overview of the regulatory measures currently affecting financial advisory in the Czech Republic, show them in the international context and test the hypothesis that the Czech market of financial advisory is still relatively immature and that further appropriate regulation would improve its effectiveness resulting in higher protection of clients.
