Sabo, Silvio January 2018 (has links)

Performance Evaluation of QUIC protocol under Network Congestion

Srivastava, Amit 18 April 2017 (has links)
TCP is a widely used protocol for web traffic. However, TCP€™s connection setup and congestion response can impact web page load times, leading to higher page load times for users. In order to address this issue, Google came out with QUIC (Quick UDP Internet Connections), a UDP-based protocol that runs in the application layer. While already deployed, QUIC is not well-studied, particularly QUIC€™s congestion response as compared to TCP€™s congestion response which is critical for stability of the Internet and flow fairness. To study QUIC€™s congestion response we conduct three sets of experiments on a wired testbed. One set of our experiments focused on QUIC and TCP throughput under added delay, another set compared QUIC and TCP throughput under added packet loss, and the third set had QUIC and TCP flows share a bottleneck link to study the fairness between TCP and QUIC flows. Our results show that with random packet loss QUIC delivers higher throughput compared to TCP. However, when sharing the same link, QUIC can be unfair to TCP. With an increase in the number of competing TCP flows, a QUIC flow takes a greater share of the available link capacity compared to TCP flows.

Hedging the commons : google books, libraries, and open access to knowledge

Bottando, Evelyn 01 July 2012 (has links)
This dissertation analyzes the legal, social, technological, and cultural environment that gave rise to Google's library partnership program in order to propose an institutional corrective to Google's project to digitize cultural heritage. Interview research done with those actively involved with Google's project revealed the need for a history of the present. The class action settlement proposed sweeping changes to copyright warranting a quick response by a community of scholars seeking to advance a balanced vision of Anglo-American copyright, one where the public benefit to use and appropriate works is weighted alongside private incentives to create. The process created the conditions for institutional renewal in the public sphere through the creation of a Digital Public Library of America. By combining archival, critical legal, and interview research methods, this dissertation provides a narrative that is both analytical and deeply contextual. Google's digitization partnership in France is contrasted with its library partners program in the United States, examining Google's work in light of competing visions of intellectual property within a trans-Atlantic context.

Sökmotoroptimering på Google / Search Engine Optimization on Google

Määttä, Carl Joel, Eriksson, Per January 2009 (has links)
The report is about search engine optimization for a new website. The report covers the theories and practical experiments carried out on the website. The aim of the report was that we would end up with more knowledge about SEO focused on the Google search engine service. We wanted to find out how to rank as high as possible on the search results page for each specific keyword. As we have read the web-programming in nearly three years without the studies given us any direct knowledge of SEO, this dropped as an appropriate choice to deepen ourselves in. Methods that covers in this report are the indexing of a website, ranking, PageRank, general search engine optimization and regional differences in a search results in Google. Theories we investigated was whether the overall Google search engine, Sandbox effect, PageRank, Text Links, Meta Tags, Domain Name, Site Maps, Website-document and their impact on SEO. The result was that the site was search engine optimized, we ranked both good and less good on the key words, and the website in general was SEO for search engines. The results from the practical experiments were partially successful and it was concluded that we had got good knowledge about SEO theory-studies and practical implementation.</p>
